In this January 2023 cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change for the 20 top-selling cars of January 2023. Based on the data, we’ll also share our observations and possible reasons for big improvement or massive decline in sales where applicable.

January 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars YoY Change

Mahindra Scorpio reported the best growth, with a gain of 188% in terms of YoY comparison.
The next best YoY performers in January 2023 were Mahindra Bolero and Maruti Baleno with around 140% gains, although about twice as many units of Baleno were dispatched in January than Bolero.
The Alto pair was the best-selling car in India with over 21,000 units sold in the month of January.
The top 10 best selling cars in January 2023 sold well over 10,000 units a month.
Maruti’s Ertiga was the top loser in YoY comparison analysis for the month of January with near 18% decline in dispatches compared to January of 2022.
About 9 out of 20 models on the top 20 bestselling list in January 2023 are from Maruti Suzuki.
Hyundai has 4, Tata have 3 cars in the January 2023 YoY Top 20 performers list, while Kia and Mahindra just have 2.

January 2023 - 20 Top-Selling Cars MoM Change

The Alto pair was the top-performer in terms of MoM comparison analysis for the month of January with over 147% increase in dispatches as compared to December of 2023.
The WagonR was the second best performer in the MoM comparison for the month of January, with a 101% growth in sales.
Most cars in the top-selling cars’ list saw a MoM growth in dispatch numbers.
Ertiga from Maruti Suzuki topped the list of MoM losers with a 20% decline in numbers.
