Breaking: MG Limit Free Charging To 1000 Units Even For Early Bird Windsor Buyers | V3Cars
JSW MG have recently revised their terms and conditions for ‘Free 1-year unlimited charging offer’. First of all, this offer was only available to customers who took delivery of the Windsor before the end of December 2024. MG kept their word and discontinued the offer for new customers taking delivery on or after Jan 1, 2025. They also broke their promise and discontinued the offer for the car owners who showed tremendous faith in the brand and bought the car before the end of 2024.

MG have recently revised the terms and conditions and are now limiting the free charging to 1,000 units or 1,000kWh, which is valid for only 12 months since the date of delivery. This means if an MG Windsor owner has already used more than 1000 units, then they will have to pay for charging the car in future. However, if they have only used, say, 500 units, then they will have another 500 units to charge the car.
1,000 units is an embarrassingly low number. Assuming a real-world range of 275km and 10% thermal inefficiencies during charging, you can expect the Windsor to deliver a mileage of 6.55kmpu. This means, MG expect you to drive only about 6,500km in a year and that’s low even by MG’s own estimates. According to the maintenance schedule in Windsor owner’s manual, they expect a typical Windsor customer to drive the car for about 15,000km per year. If they had to contain the losses, dropping it to 2,500 units would have been ideal as it would cover the needs of the majority of the Windsor owners who bought the car putting their faith in the brand.
From Trend Setter To Just Another Carmaker
When MG announced this unlimited free charging offer, we were sure there had to be something hiding in the terms and conditions. There had to be some terms and conditions or limit on charging. At the launch event of the car, we had to confirm the claims they were making on stage and MG’s top officials confirmed to V3Cars that there was no limit to the free charging offer.
For a while, it looked like MG were becoming the trend setters in the Industry. They forced Tata’s hand and got them to substantially drop the prices of the Tiago EV, Punch EV and Nexon EV. Tata even had to bring a 45kWh variant of the Nexon EV at the Windsor’s price and it offers a realistic range comparable with that of the Windsor.
They even put Tata Motors in a pickle and they had to offer free public charging with the Nexon EV and Punch EV. You can read more about it at the following link:

MG Bit More Than They Could Chew
It looked like a masterstroke. Because of the free charging, owners would use the car more than expected and this would lead to greater road presence for the car. Seeing the car on the road quite often is a sure fire way to start the chain reaction of sales. This is what helped the WagonR as it’s more visible on the road than the smaller Alto.
Assuming an average investment of Rs. 60,000 - 80,000 towards making the car more visible on the road, this is a fair, in fact, a genius marketing strategy. Please note that MG dispatched a little over 10,000 units of the Windsor to the dealers. However, not a lot of them were actually delivered.
According to a source, people within MG have been concerned about this promise of 1-year free unlimited public charging for a good while now. Therefore, they were actively holding back deliveries and giving longer delivery estimates to new customers. Judging by the consumption of electricity by initial owners must have scared the finance department so much that they had to resort to such tactics.
They probably didn’t give enough weight to the fact that — free fuel or not — people tend to drive their cars a whole lot more in the early months of ownership. I myself had covered 11,000km within 3 months with my Beat diesel back in 2014 and its average running fell back to the usual 1,000 - 1,500/month thereafter.
Buying Windsor? Wait For Better Discounts!
Since MG were getting the kind of demand for the Windsor, which would have looked crazy once you added up the electricity cost reimbursements, they probably thought they could withdraw the offer and hike the prices and still get the same traction. Some of it may have certainly been for the car itself but many buyers were also factoring in the cost benefit from the free charging offer. Considering that there are more electric vehicles landing on showroom floors, some of which are hoping to cross the chasm of product adoption, we should expect the demand for the Windsor to start drying up in the coming months.
The first sign of this demand weakening will be when the Windsor’s monthly dispatches drop below 3,000 units. Then, you can expect MG to either start offering discounts on the car. However, MG may start offering discounts on the Windsor sooner to allow a 3,000+ monthly dispatch and keep up the appearance of being a successful car, when in fact, it will be surviving on discounts.

It's fraud with the customers and I think people should approach consumer court against MG for making such promises which they can't fullfill, I think buyers from all over India should hire a advocate and fight against MG . May be we have some advocates who had got the mg windsor ..
It's cheating with the customers who all make faith on company and buy windsor in 2024. Now they are changing there term and condition
One of the owner affected, i insisted to get delivery of vechile in December only due to the charging offer, now i feel cheated.
I am a windsor ev owner I fell cheated, at the least they should have said from Feb 7th only 1000 units is free , I own the car 3months now I have already used more than 700units , if they said this condition at the time of purchase i would have only used half of the 700 units i used in public station since it's free I went to Chargeing stations nearby, or its better to give a monthly quota so that we can use monthly 4times like that this is pure cheating
I had a very disappointing experience with MG Motor India. I have been a customer since November 25, 2024, when I purchased the Windsor EV. At the time of purchase, MG Motor had promised all Windsor EV buyers (who purchased the vehicle on or before December 31, 2024) unlimited free fast charging for one year from the invoice date. However, they have now abruptly changed the terms and conditions, limiting the free charging to just 1,000 kWh—equivalent to only 25–26 charging sessions. This sudden change is unfair and misleading. Such practices reflect poorly on the company's credibility. I strongly advise against choosing MG Motor.
Let we all connect and take offer back from mg. Unity can do only this reversal
We purchased only due to 1 year unlimited charging commitment by their team. Else I had purchased other vehicle over this

Demands:- In light of the above, we hereby demand the following: 1. Immediate restoration of the free unlimited charging benefit for vehicles purchased before December 31, 2024, as promised at the time of purchase. 2. Hi this is really disheartening to see what Mg is doing here first tried to double play us by bringing the Baas scheme now this this is totally misleading and unprofessional how would you now trust a brand like Mg who gives false commitment on launch and then change there committed schemes as per there liking this is completely unacceptable and should be dragged to Court as one of our main reasons to purchase this vehicle was free charging for a year. Who is stopping them to now changing the lifetime battery warranty to 5 years or 10 years rather then 15yrs they did a false marketing in which people like us got fooled by them which is inappropriate and unacceptable.
Adv pratik I am ready to file the legal notice can we do this online
Just now spoke with the customer care of mg they have now revised the teams and conditions, now they are saying after 7th Feb every windsor ev owner will get 1000 units ,the units which we consumed before Feb 7th will not be taken into consideration, now i think it's ok but even then this is a change which is not welcomed but it's acceptable
they may change again . better to send them notice. and file complain in consumer court. they may change remain 2 promise as well of 2. life time battery warranty 3. and 60% return after 3 years. remember this is ev and mileage will reduce after year after year
MG promised me unlimited free charging for One year . For this reason I brought this car before dec 24. Now I feel I was cheated vey badly. We want create one group and fight against MG MOTOR.
