BMW have opened bookings for the i5 electric sedan in India. The i5 is the all-electric version of the next-gen 5 Series sedan, which is yet to launch in India. Interested customers can book the 2024 BMW i5 both online and at any BMW dealership across the country. BMW plan to launch the i5 in a single, fully-specced variant – the M60 xDrive – in limited numbers via the CBU route.
BMW i5 Electric Motor And Battery Specs
While the BMW i5 is available in 2 variant in global market – the eDrive 40 and M60 xDrive – only the latter will launch in India. Compared to the eDrive 40, the i5 M60 xDrive features an electric motor on each axle, giving it all-wheel drive capabilities. The total output of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive is 609PS of power and 820Nm of torque. The electric sedan is capable of hitting 0-100kmph in just 3.8 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited ot 230kmph.
The dual electric motors are powered by an 81.2kWh battery pack, which helps the i5 M60 xDrive offer a range of up to 516km per charge. BMW are offering the i5 with a 11kW AC charger as standard. However, customers can also opt for an optional 22kW charger for a small premium. For quick charging needs, the i5 also gets 205kW DC charging capability and BMW claims it only lates about 30 mins to juice up the batteries from 10-80 percent.

Other highlights include dynamic cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ADAS features like lane departure alert, front collision warning, blind spot detection, and more.
BMW i5 Expected Price And Rivals
BMW are yet to reveal the price of the i5 M60 xDrive. We expect the electric sedan to cost around Rs. 1.0 crore (ex-showroom) at launch. The BMW i5 does not have any direct rivals in the country currently. However, its expected price puts it up against other all-electric offerings like the Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback. When launched, the i5 will become BMW’s fifth EV in the country after the iX1, iX xDrive50, i4 and i7.
