According to a leaked internal document, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 will get the new 3-cylinder petrol engine with better mileage figures. Update (May 1, 2024): We have just learned that the Maruti Swift 2024 will come with an AMT-type automatic transmission. So, according to our source, CVT is certainly out of the question. This suggests that they intend to keep the price attractive and offering CVT would have made the new Swift 2024 more expensive. We have updated this article to convey the change.
Maruti Swift 2024 — Engine Specification Confirmed
The 2024 Maruti Swift will get the new Z series petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. While the displacement of the new Swift engine remains the same as before, it’s an all-new engine for India. The old Swift had the 4-cylinder motor but the new one will get a 3-cylinder engine.

The power output of the 2024 Swift stands at 81.6PS at 5700rpm while the torque output is 112Nm at 4300rpm. The mild-hybrid engine helps the 2024 Swift provide a better mileage figure of 25.72kmpl. Let’s now compare the old Swift engine specs with the new Swift.
Note: While it’s written explicitly in the source material, the internal material says that the new Swift 2024 offers better drivability at lower RPMs. This suggests that the 2024 Swift will get mild hybrid tech.

Maruti Swift 2024 — Old Vs New — Spec Comparison
The Maruti Swift 2024 engine has 1 less cylinder and 8.2PS lower power output. The torque output is also 1Nm lower than before despite no change in displacement. What’s notable about the new Swift is that it makes its peak power and peak torque a little lower in the rev range. Because of the mild hybrid technology, the Swift will also offer better drivability than before.
Mild hybrid tech adds additional torque at off-peak RPMs. Therefore, it’s not visible in the spec sheet but it improves the drivability at city-friendly RPMs. This not only improves the ARAI mileage figures, it also drastically improves the real-world mileage as the efficiency deviates much less from the claimed figure.
But, the inclusion of mild-hybrid technology in the Swift 2024 makes its mileage figure jump to 25.72kmpl, which is an improvement of 3.34 - 3.16kmpl compared to the old Swift. These figures are about 14-15% higher than the old Swift.

What We Don’t Know
Since publishing this article, we have received word from our source that the 2024 Maruti Swift will come with an AMT type automatic. CVT is ruled out and this move should help keep the new Swift’s price in control. CVT automatic transmissions are more expensive and offering one would have made the car also quite expensive.
