We know that Toyota and Maruti Suzuki share their R&D and expertise in respective fields with platform and powertrain sharing. In this article, we’ll go over the 6 cars you can buy from Toyota as well as Maruti Suzuki with minor visual touch ups. These cars exist because of the platform and powertrain sharing deal between the 2 companies. There are more that may come later but aren’t even on the horizon yet.
Let’s start with the most affordable car and go up the price chain from there.

1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno - Toyota Glanza
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a B2-segment hatchback. It was completely engineered by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota sell it via their outlets as the Glanza. The price differences between the 2 cars are comparable but the cost Toyota are incurring for selling a Maruti-engineered car through their showrooms is visible in the ex-showroom prices. Both the cars share the 1.2L normal petrol engine with manual and AMT automatic transmission and also get the 1.2L CNG bi-fuel powertrain option.

Both the cars share the 1.0L turbo petrol with 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, 1.2L normal petrol engine with manual and AMT automatic transmission, and even the 1.2L CNG bi-fuel powertrain option.

Both the Rumion and Ertiga share the same platform and powertrain options. In this case, Maruti Suzuki developed the MPV as well as its engine and transmission options. Both MPVs come with a 1.5L normal petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed TC automatic transmission, and a 1.5L CNG engine with a 5-speed manual.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, or simply Toyota Hyryder, also shares the platform and powertrain options with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. In this case, Maruti Suzuki didn’t entirely engineer the car on their own. The 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol engine comes with Maruti’s expertise while Toyota contributed with their expertise with the 1.5L strong hybrid petrol-automatic powertrain.

Before Maruti hiked their prices in January 2025, the Grand Vitara with the Maruti-engineered powertrain was more affordable than the Hyryder with the same powertrain. Although the price difference has closed up significantly, Toyota are yet to hike their prices for the new year.
Meanwhile, Toyota's hybrid powertrain is available in one extra Hyryder variant, making it an attractive option for someone who wants a hybrid powertrain at an affordable price. However, the price premium you’re paying for the Vitara hybrid is Rs. 20,000 over the Hyryder hybrid.

5. Toyota Innova Hycross - Maruti Suzuki Invicto
Maruti Suzuki launched the Invicto, which is a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross, in July 2023. Just like the Glanza and the Hyryder sharing their platform and powertrains with their Maruti Suzuki siblings, the Invicto shares the body and platform with the Innova Hycross. However, the Invicto does not get the 2.0L normal petrol engine that is offered with the Innova Hycross. Instead, it is only available with the Innova’s 2.0L petrol hybrid engine mated to a CVT automatic transmission. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto, which is sold via the Nexa platform, is only available in 3 variants – Zeta Plus 7 Seater, Zeta Plus 8-Seater, and Alpha Plus 7-seater.
In this case, the car is completely engineered and designed by Toyota while the Maruti Suzuki Invicto only carries minor visual differences. Since it’s a vehicle expertise Maruti Suzuki are borrowing from Toyota, the Invicto carrie a small premium over the Hycross.

1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Based on the same Heartect-e platform as the e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser is mechanically identical to the Maruti electric SUV. The Grand Vitara 7-seater was spotted testing in the country recently with styling inspired by the upcoming e Vitara electric SUV. We expect the Maruti 7-seater SUV to go on sale ahead of Toyota’s version. When launched, the Grand Vitara 7-seater and Hyryder 7-seater will take on the Hyundai Alacazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.
4 Toyota Hyryder 7 Seater
Like the Grand Vitara 7-Seater, the Hyryder could also get a 7-seater version later this year. We expect both SUVs to be powered by the same 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol, strong hybrid petrol and CNG engines as their 5-seater counterparts.
