How To Read VIN Number Of Volkswagen Vehicles?

A VIN number consists of multiple characters and digits and it could span up to 22 characters. However, the number of characters and digits varies from one carmaker to the next, but there are essentially 2 characters that are required to know the manufacturing date of any vehicle. In the case of Volkswagen cars and SUVs, their VIN number generally consists of 17 characters.

In Volkswagen vehicles, the VIN characters begin with either MEX or MEB. Let us take the VIN MEXM22D29PT00**** from the image as an example. Here, MEX identifies a Volkswagen car manufactured in India. The 4th character ‘M’ denotes the month of manufacture. The 5th and 6th character ‘22’ represents the year of manufacture. The remaining characters are a unique serial number for the specific vehicle. Thus, the Volkswagen car with the VIN MEXM22D29PT00**** was manufactured in December 2022.
