In India, where road safety remains a major concern, choosing a car with enhanced safety features is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. According to a recent government report, India accounts for the highest number of road fatalities globally. With a complex mix of vehicles on the road, often navigating challenging conditions, every effort must be made to minimise the impact of accidents. Airbags, a vital component of car safety systems, deploy in a fraction of a second during a collision, cushioning passengers and significantly reducing the risk of serious injuries.
In this article, we list down cars that offer 6 airbags for under Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-showroom). Let’s start the list with the most affordable car with 6 airbags.
1. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
In October 2023, Hyundai announced all their cars sold in India would now offer 6 airbags in all variants. Soon after the announcement, Hyundai’s B1-segment hatchback, Grand i10 Nios, received 6 airbags as standard, making it the most affordable car in India to offer this safety feature. The Grand i10 Nios with 6 airbags is priced from Rs. 5.92 lakh - Rs. 8.56 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available with a 1.2L petrol engine with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT, and a 1.2L CNG bi-fuel engine with the 5-speed manual.
2. Hyundai Exter
The Hyundai Exter is the second most affordable car in India to offer 6 airbags as standard. Priced from Rs. 6.13 lakh to Rs. 10.28 lakh (ex-showroom), the Exter is offered with the same powertrain options as the Grand i10 Nios above. Apart from 6 airbags, the Exter offers other noteworthy features like a high ground clearance, automatic climate control, sunroof, digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents, cruise control and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers. It also offers a few segment-first features like paddle shifters and a dual-camera dashcam.
3. Hyundai Aura
The Aura is essentially the sedan version of the Grand i10 Nios and it comes with the same engine and transmission options as the hatchback. Currently priced between Rs. 6.49 lakh and Rs. 9.05 lakh, the Aura is the third most affordable car in the country to offer 6 airbags as standard. The Aura is also the only sedan priced under Rs. 10.0 lakh to offer this safety feature.
If you are considering an Aura, we highly recommend you check out the mid mid S and SX variants as they offer a long list of features, thus offering good value for money. The key notable features of the S variant include a tyre pressure monitoring system, day/night inside rear view mirror, steering-mounted controls, 4 speakers, LED DRLs, rear seat armrest, rear AC vents and height adjustable driver’s seat.
