What Are The Pros And Cons Of Toyota Rumion Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Toyota Rumion petrol/CNG are:
- Decent ground clearance of 180mm
- Toyota’s credibility for offering trouble-free ownership and service experience
- Incredible ARAI mileage figures of 20kmpl+ with manual as well as automatic
- 3 powertrain options — petrol-manual, petrol-automatic and CNG-manual
- Top-notch survivability* score in GNCAP crash safety tests is right up there with the 5-star rated XUV300 and Nexon
*Survivability score depends on how well the car protects the driver and front passenger’s critical body parts like the head, neck and chest in the GNCAP crash tests.
The Toyota Rumion petrol/CNG has the following shortcomings or problems:
- No diesel engine option; no modern and efficient automatic transmission option like DCT or CVT
- Non-removable third-row seats means it has less boot space than the smaller Renault Triber in 2-row mode (550 litres vs 625 litres for Triber)
- Automatic transmission and CNG not available in the well-loaded mid-spec G variant
- Missing features like curtain airbags, 360-degree camera, 16-inch wheels, LED headlamps and TPMS
- Cab image may sway some buyers away from Rumion
- No 6-speed manual transmission; the engine has to rev high and sounds stressed on the highways and expressways with the manual
- Not enough design distinction from the Ertiga as it is between the Hyryder and Grand Vitara
- Smaller sales and service network than Maruti Suzuki; for the service centre reach alone, the Maruti Suzuki version of this car makes a lot of sense
- Considerably more expensive than the Ertiga for the Toyota badge
What Is The Price Of Toyota Rumion Petrol & CNG Variants?
The Toyota Rumion is available with 3 powertrain options:

CNG bi-fuel option is available in only the base variant. It costs Rs. 11.24 lakh, which is Rs. 95,000 more than the Rumion S petrol-manual.

The base variant gets a good number of features, which are mostly must-have for a car of this size. For Rumion CNG bi-fuel buyers, this is the only option. But we’ll strongly suggest the petrol-manual buyers to upgrade to the mid-spec G variant as it easily justifies the incremental asking price for the additional features. For petrol-automatic buyers also, it’s better to upgrade to the V variant.
Toyota Rumion Petrol S vs G Variant - Feature Comparison
The G variant is only available with the petrol-manual powertrain. Compared to the S petrol-manual, it costs Rs. 1.16 lakh more.

The most unfortunate thing about the G variant is that it doesn’t get the automatic transmission. If it did, then that would have earned our top recommendation. But, since it doesn’t, we’ll suggest Rumion automatic buyers to upgrade to the V trim instead. For petrol-manual buyers, the G is our top recommendation as it has the features for a balanced ownership experience. Moreover, it also offers the best value for money among the 3 petrol-manual variants.
Toyota Rumion Petrol G vs V Top Model - Features Comparison
The V variant of the Rumion costs Rs. 12.18 lakh with the manual and Rs. 13.68 lakh with the automatic transmission. The V variant costs Rs. 1.89 lakh more than the lower G variant. The automatic transmission itself costs Rs. 1.50 lakh more than the V petrol-manual.

The V top variant of the Rumion is available with petrol-manual and petrol-automatic options. It adds the following notable features:
- Cruise control
- Leather steering
- Auto headlamps
- 2x side thorax airbags
- Rear camera

Even in the top variant, you don’t get features like:
- LED headlamps
- TPMS
- 360-camera
- Curtain airbags
For petrol-manual buyers, this variant is worth considering for the additional safety and convenience features. With the automatic transmission, the V variant is our top recommendation as the mid-spec G automatic is not available.
Which Variant Of The Toyota Rumion Petrol, CNG Should You Buy?
If you are buying the Rumion with a manual transmission, then the G variant offers better value than the other 2 variants. Even the top variant is worth considering but it offers slightly less value than the mid-spec G trim. For Rumion CNG bi-fuel buyers, there’s only one option — Rumion S. So, there's not much of a choice here.

Between the 2 petrol-automatic variants, the top variant is our recommendation. We wish the mid, G variant also got an automatic transmission. Then, the G automatic would have become the variant, which is easiest to recommend.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Toyota Rumion Petrol, CNG?
Since the Rumion, Ertiga and XL6 are the same car with mild differences, they all offer similar power, torque, transmission options and fuel efficiency figures. The Carens is a more powerful car with better torque output and a 6-speed manual transmission but it has a considerably lower mileage figure.
Because of its shorter, city-friendly gearing, the Rumion with the manual transmission may feel stressed and on the highways and expressways. On the flip side, the automatic has tall ratios and can cruise on expressways all day long while spinning the engine at fairly low RPMs.
