What Are The Pros And Cons Of Tata Tigor EV?

The pros or advantages of Tata Tigor EV are:

  • A preferred choice for commercial buyers (Tigor EV-based XpressT) makes the Tigor EV a fairly reliable option for personal use
  • A reasonably long list of features like cruise control, auto projector headlamps, auto wipers, power mirrors, rear armrest and keyless entry
  • DC fast charging is standard with CCS-2 connector
  • 4 regen modes — including regen off — allows you to select the most appropriate regen option based on the driving conditions and driving style

The Tata Tigor EV has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • Telematics feature is available as standard making it a no-go for buyers who value digital privacy more than remote accessible features
  • The platform is not designed for an EV and derived out of the Tigor petrol; thus, it doesn’t enjoy some of the EV-specific benefits, which aren’t apparent on the surface
  • Missing front armrest armrest even in the top model costing almost Rs. 14.0 lakh ex-showroom
  • Real-world range for Tata EVs is significantly lower than their ARAI claims (30-40%); even with a very conservative driving style, we noticed a 25-30% lower range than the claimed figure while the Comet meets the ARAI figure with conservative driving and the range only drops by ~10% with load and slightly aggressive driving style; thus the Tigor EV only offers slightly better range than the Comet EV in the real-world driving although the Comet’s size and style is poles apart from the Tigor EV
  • No day/night inside mirror in the base model
  • While Tata have changed the colour options and don’t offer white colour with the Tigor EV, the car is still likely to carry some of the taxi image
  • No AC fast charging capability; this feature is available in Tiago and Punch EV

What Is The Price Of Tata Tigor EV Variants?

The Tata Tigor EV is available in 4 variants XE, XT, XZ Plus and XZ Plus Lux with prices ranging from Rs. 12.49 lakh to Rs. 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • Cruise control

Because of so many must-have features missing in this variant, we can’t recommend this. Moreover, the lack of features pinches more because of the high asking price. Consider buying a higher variant.

The XZ Plus offers 30% greater value than the incremental jump in asking price over the base XE variant. Still, it’s worth noting that you can buy the Punch EV Adventure Long Range for less price. It’s also our top recommendation for Punch EV buyers. In addition to the SUV body style and a fresh styling, the Punch EV LR also offers significantly better range, performance and an EV-spec platform.

Tata Tigor EV XZ Plus vs XZ Plus Lux Variant - Price, Feature Comparison

The XZ Plus Lux top model of the Tigor EV costs Rs. 13.75 lakh (ex-sh) and is Rs. 26,000 pricier than the lower XZ Plus variant.

Even in the top model of the Tigor EV, you may miss features like:

The XZ Plus Lux variant justifies the incremental cost over the lower variants and is worth considering for the additional features.

Which Variant Of The Tata Tigor EV Should You Buy?

Among the lower variants of the Tigor EV, XE and XT are difficult to recommend. But the XZ Plus is easy to recommend. Although, it becomes so because of the overpriced base model, which costs more than the Tiago EV top model.

Based on the V3 variants algorithm, our recommendation stands. Still, it’s worth noting that the Punch EV Adventure Long Range variant costs less than the Tigor EV XZ Plus. Besides a SUV-like body and a fresh styling, it also offers an EV-spec platform, longer range and far superior performance.
