Then we will compare the engine specs, dimensions and mileage of the  Mahindra XUV 3XO with its competitors and other diesel powered B2-segment SUVs like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Fronx and Renault Kiger.

2024 Mahindra XUV3XO

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel?

The pros or advantages of 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel are:

  • Best in class power and torque figure (300Nm) while promising to offer respectable mileage too (20.0kmpl with manual and 19.7kmpl with the automatic transmission)
  • Segment-benchmark in terms of features (almost-full ADAS suite, panoramic sunroof, steering modes, 17-inch alloys)
  • The mid-spec AX5 is loaded well enough to challenge the top variant of a rival B2-segment SUV
  • Value-for-money higher variants (you can blindly buy AX5 or any of the higher variants without compromising on feature distribution or value)
  • Good and sensible feature distribution across all variants

The 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • The AMT automatic transmission carries a premium of Rs. 80,000, which is a fair bit higher than the typical asking price for AMT automatic (Rs. 50,000 is the norm)
  • The mid-spec variants (MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro) come across as considerably less attractive because of poor feature distribution
  • The styling of the car may divide opinions
  • Adaptive cruise control is not available with diesel engine as automatic is not available with the only variant, which gets the ADAS features
  • Speaking of ADAS, the affordable XUV3XO AX5 L variant is also not available with the diesel engine; so the only way to get ADAS is to buy the top-spec AX7 L
  • MX1 variant not available; since it’s reasonably well loaded, the option of MX1 diesel would have been enough for several budget-conscious 3XO diesel buyers
  • Lowest ground clearance and smallest boot space in segment — A con for the XUV300 but now almost entirely addressed with its replacement — 2024 XUV 3XO

In the base model of the XUV 3XO, you may miss the following features:

  • Height-adjustable driver seat
  • Android Auto, Apple Carplay
  • Wheel covers
  • TPMS

The base variant doesn’t get some features we expect from a modern car at this price point. But, at least a couple of them are fairly easy to install post purchase from the aftermarket. Keeping the attractive asking price in the picture, it’s difficult to ignore the value proposition the XUV3XO MX2 diesel offers. Moreover, the sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh also keeps the on-road price considerably low in several states. Therefore, the 3XO diesel base model comes across as a good option for most budget-conscious buyers.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel MX2 vs MX2 Pro Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The next variant of the XUV3XO diesel is the MX2 Pro and it costs Rs. 10.39 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs. 40,000 more than the base MX2.

In the MX2 Pro variant, you may miss the following features:

The MX2 Pro variant adds some good-to-have features for a nominal asking price. Nonetheless, it improves the value for money rating of the variant. If the on-road price doesn’t jump up significantly in your state, then the MX2 Pro is worth buying. Otherwise, you’re better off either buying the base model (MX2) or stretching your budget some more for a variant with better feature distribution and value for money score.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel MX2 Pro vs MX3 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The MX3 is the next variant for XUV3XO diesel buyers. It costs Rs. 10.89 lakh with the manual and Rs. 11.69 lak with the automatic. This XUV 3XO MX3 diesel-manual variant is Rs. 40,000 more expensive than the MX2 Pro diesel-manual. The AMT automatic transmission further carries a premium of Rs. 80,000 over the MX3 diesel-manual. This is the most affordable diesel-automatic variant of the XUV3XO diesel.

Considering the asking price, you may miss the following features in the MX3 variant:

  • Rear camera
  • Rear washer wiper
  • Height-adjustable driver seat
  • TPMS
  • Auto AC

The MX3 variant offers barely enough features to offset the price gap over the base variant. We’ll still suggest you consider a higher variant for a better ownership experience and get better value for money too. Even automatic buyers should consider upgrading to the higher variant for better value for money.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel MX3 vs MX3 Pro Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The new Mahindra XUV3XO MX3 Pro variant adds Rs. 50,000 to the asking price and its list of additional features is also small. The XUV3XO MX3 Pro diesel-manual costs Rs. 11.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and it’s not available with the automatic transmission.

The MX3 Pro also only adds a little to the asking price but the feature additions are also equally irrelevant. It further worsens the value score and is not recommended. You should buy a higher variant.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel MX3 Pro vs AX5 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The AX5 variant of the XUV 3XO 2024 diesel costs only Rs. 70,000 more than the lower MX3 Pro but adds a whole lot of useful features for this nominal asking price. The XUV3XO AX5 diesel-manual costs Rs. 12.09 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 12.89 lakh.

We don’t see any notable features, which you may miss in the AX5 variant considering the asking price of this variant. Now, this is a very nice option. For only a Rs. 70,000 price increase, the AX5 more than justifies the incremental asking price over even the well-priced base variant of the 3XO diesel. The AX5 offers features that you should expect from a top variant of a car in this price range.

We almost never come across a variant of any car where we don’t mention the features that you may miss. Considering the price of this variant, the body style, segment, performance, features and value, the AX5 is an easy recommendation for most XUV3XO diesel buyers. The XUV 3XO remains our top recommendation for 3XO diesel-manual as well as automatic buyers.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel AX5 vs AX7 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

Since the 2024 XUV3XO diesel doesn’t get the AX5 L, we have to jump straight to the AX7 variant. The XUV3XO AX7 diesel carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 13.69 lakh for the manual and Rs. 14.49 lakh for the automatic transmission. These prices are Rs. 1.60 lakh higher than the lower AX5 variant.

The AX7 variant doesn’t get the ADAS features of the AX5 L but adds luxurious features to beat the competition. Its 17-inch alloy wheels are the largest in segment. A panoramic sunroof is also only available in the Mahindra XUV3XO and no other B2-segment SUV.

For those who want high end features, the AX7 is a perfect option. Its value score exceeds the price gap over the base 3XO diesel and it’s also worth buying for the luxurious features like a panoramic sunroof.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel AX7 vs AX7 L Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

Finally, the AX7 top model of the Mahindra XUV3XO diesel costs Rs. 14.99 lakh with the diesel-manual powertrain, which is Rs. 1.30 lakh more than the AX7. This variant does not get a manual transmission. It’s also the only variant of the XUV3XO diesel with the ADAS features.

Thankfully, the ADAS features are available in at least one of the XUV3XO diesel variants. We wish Mahindra also offered the AX5 L variant with the diesel powertrain for buyers who want the diesel powertrain and the ADAS features. Unfortunately, this variant doesn’t come with the automatic transmission. So, adaptive cruise control is not available with any of the 3XO diesel variants. Regardless, the AX7 L remains a variant worth considering if you want a more luxurious ownership experience.

Which Variant Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel Should You Buy?

For the XUV3XO diesel buyer, the buying recommendation is pretty straightforward. If you’re on a tight budget, then the base variant is a solid choice. Just add a couple of accessories and you're good to go. It has a good feature balance for a Rs. 10.0 lakh (ex-sh) diesel SUV and you will appreciate that during the ownership.

From there, the variant that’s easiest to recommend is the AX5. It offers a fantastic balance of features and value. At around 12.0 lakh rupees, you get features you would usually expect from a petrol-powered rival costing about Rs. 13.0-14.0 lakh. And don’t forget. This is a diesel SUV. So, it should cost more but even with a top-variant-like feature set, it costs less than the petrol SUVs.

If you want more features, then the AX7 and AX7 L are also good options. You can buy these variants without compromising on the value front either.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel?

Among the B2-segment SUVs, the XUV3XO’s performance figures demolish the competition with best-in-class torque output. 300Nm torque output from a 1.5L diesel engine is still difficult to comprehend. While the 3XO diesel-manual may not have the class-leading mileage figures, with the automatic transmission, its 19.7kmpl ARAI mileage is certainly respectable. For the crazy torque output, a slight dip in mileage is not only understandable, or acceptable, it’s more than welcome.

What Are The Dimensions Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO?

In terms of dimensions, we have criticised the XUV300 for having the lowest ground clearance and the smallest boot. With the 3XO, Mahindra have fixed those issues. The 3XO has a 295-litres of boot space, which is still the lowest in the segment but certainly an improvement over the XUV300’s 257-litre cargo capacity. With 180mm of ground clearance, the XUV300 barely met the conditions to call itself an SUV. The 3XO takes good care of that too and offers 201mm of ground clearance.

Besides these, 3XO retains its tag for being the widest in the segment. The ground clearance improvement also makes it the tallest — at least among the diesel SUVs. The Brezza remains the tallest with a 1685mm height.
