Volkswagen India recently notified us about a price hike from January 1, 2024. The reasons for the price hike quoted in the notification are inflation and rising input costs. Volkswagen have stated that the price hike will be in the 2% range on the ex-showroom cost of their cars such as the Virtus sedan, and Tiguan and Taigun SUVs.

Volkswagen India Price Increase

The statement reads:

“Volkswagen India will be increasing prices across its model range, effective 1st January 2024. Effective 1st January 2024, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India plans to hike prices by up to 2% across its model range owing to rising input and material costs. While the brand continues to absorb most of the input cost increase, however, some impact will have to be passed on to the end consumers.”

V3Cars Insight

Over the last couple of weeks, several car manufacturers, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Skoda India, MG Motor, Audi and BMW have announced price hikes in the range of 1-2% effective from January 1, 2024. Hence, it is not surprising that Volkswagen India are also set to hike the prices of their cars.

Volkswagen India are currently offering discounts on their entire portfolio. For example:

  • The VW Virtus is currently available with a max possible discount of up to Rs. 1.20 lakh
  • The VW Taigun gets a max possible discount of up to Rs. 1.46 lakh
  • The VW Tiguan is currently available with a max possible discount of Rs. 4.20 lakh

Dealers are likely offering heavy discounts this month to get rid of their existing stock. So if you are considering buying a new Volkswagen car and don’t mind getting a MY2023 model, then now is the time to make that purchase. Starting January 1, 2024, prices of all 3 models will go up by 2% of their ex-showroom cost and the chances of getting dealer-level discounts also slim down.
