Tata Sierra To Get Petrol/Diesel Powertrain Options Later In 2025 | V3Cars

We recently reported about the Tata Sierra EV that the car’s photos, which surfaced online, may not be of the production version. Since the car doesn’t seem to have a DC fast charging port it is not visible anywhere on the car. Although the location of the AC Type-2 charging port is visible.

Tata Sierra Petrol/Diesel To Launch After EV In 2025

If you’re a fan of the Tata Sierra’s design but aren’t too keen about the EV powertrain, then we’d like to let you know that Tata will also bring the petrol and diesel engine options of the car sometime later in 2025. First the car will get an EV version on a dedicated EV platform. The Sierra petrol/diesel will get the same design but it’ll sit on a completely different platform.

Tata followed a similar platform approach with the Curvv and Punch. The electric versions of these two cars get a skateboard EV platform while the petrol/diesel/CNG versions get a different platform.

Tata had earlier confirmed to several media personnel attending the 2023 Auto Expo that the car will first get the electric version of the car and an ICE version will follow. Since the Sierra is a C-segment SUV with a length of around 4.3 metres, we expect this car to get petrol as well as diesel engine options. The Curvv and Nexon also get petrol as well as diesel engine options while the larger Tata SUVs, such as Safari and Harrier, only get a diesel engine option.

You can watch the following video to learn more about the Sierra and Tata’s launch plans about the car from an official source:

Tata are also in the process of making an all-new 1.5L turbo petrol engine for the Safari and Harrier. It’s unclear if the Sierra will get this new engine or it’ll only get the Curvv’s more powerful 1.2L turbo petrol engine. The Sierra may even get both the petrol engine options along with the 1.5L diesel.

Currently, the Curvv gets 2 petrol engine options; both have a displacement of 1.2L and they both get turbocharger as well, but only the more powerful one gets direct injection and makes more power and torque. The Curvv undercuts the prime C-SUV rivals in terms of price as well as performance and engine displacement. Other C-segment SUVs offer a more powerful 1.5L turbo petrol engine option. We expect the Sierra to sit one notch above the Curvv and help Tata cover the entire price spectrum with 2 cars to challenge the might of Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos.

Thus, the Sierra may debut with the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine, which will eventually find its way under the hood of the Harrier and Safari.
