Tata Punch CNG Reaches Dealerships

The walkaround video showcases what looks like a lower variant of the Punch CNG since the small SUV seen in the footage doesn’t feature a rear wiper and washer. Tata are yet to release the Punch CNG’s list of variants. However, looking at other Tata CNG offerings, we expect the carmaker to offer as many Punch CNG variants as the Punch petrol. The video also reveals the twin-cylinder layout that resides under the false boot floor, which we first saw at the 2023 Auto Expo. The twin CNG cylinder layout helps free up more luggage area and we expect the Punch CNG to offer class-leading boot space compared to its other CNG rivals. The Tata Punch CNG was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and at the show, its top variant was equipped with additional features over the Punch petrol, such as 6 airbags and an electric sunroof. Tata Motors recently updated the Altroz hatchback by adding a sunroof along with other nifty features. We expect the carmaker to update the petrol variants of the Punch with additional features soon, considering it competes with the feature-laden Hyundai Exter small SUV.

Once launched, the Tata Punch CNG will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Exter CNG and Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG. The Punch CNG is likely to share its CNG powertrain with the Altroz CNG that comes with a 1.2L normal petrol-CNG engine. In CNG mode, this engine produces 73.5PS of power at 6000rpm and 103Nm of torque at 3300rpm. In petrol mode, it offers 88PS of power at 6000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 3250rpm. Like every other CNG car from Tata, we expect the Punch CNG to come with a 5-speed manual transmission only. The upcoming CNG SUV is unlikely to come with the 5-speed AMT offered in the Punch petrol.
