Considering that Tata are offering LED DRLs, LED headlamps, connected LED tail lamps and gloss black outside mirrors as standard, even the base Smart variant of the Nexon will appear pretty smart. On the safety front too, Tata have included a good number of features like 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, HSA, TC and 5x 3-point seatbelts right from the base model demonstrating their commitment to making safer cars.

2023 Tata Nexon Base Model New Features
Compared to the old Nexon base model (XE), the new Smart variant gets a bunch of new features. While carrying over almost all of the features of the older model, the base variant of the new Nexon 2023 adds the following new features to the mix:

The Nexon base model has always had a strong focus on safety and included ESC, TC and HSA along with projector headlamps and LED DRLs for better visibility. This time, with the 2023 update, the base Smart variant of the Nexon gets LED reflector headlamps instead of halogen projectors and 4 extra airbags. In other aspects, it gets connected LED tail lamps and a new, 2-spoke steering wheel design with backlick Tata logo. A 5-speed transmission with the petrol engine is a new feature too, replacing the 6-speed manual transmission. Higher variants of the Nexon get a 6-speed manual with the turbo petrol engine.

2023 Tata Nexon Base Model Missing Features
Among the most notable features missing in the base model are:
- Remote central locking
- Music system
- Steering-mounted controls
- Rear power windows
- Power mirrors
- Wheel covers
- 6-speed manual transmission
- Body-coloured door handles
- Day/night inside mirror
Except for the power mirrors, body-coloured outside mirrors, steering-mounted controls and a 6-speed manual transmission, the others are fairly easy to install from the aftermarket. It’s surprising to see that Tata engineered and made the same 1.2L turbo petrol engine work with a 5-speed manual transmission only for the base variant. As long as it has the gear ratios spaced out well, it shouldn’t affect the Nexon’s highway drivability as it has the same power and torque output as the higher variants.
Another big omission is the day/night inside mirror, which is only available with the Creative and higher trims. Similarly, a basic feature like body-coloured door handles is only available in the Creative and higher trims.
