Tata Motors Reveal All-New Tata Punch SUV Mini SUV | V3Cars

Tata Motors today revealed their second sub-4m SUV. While the Nexon is also technically a sub-4m SUV, the new Tata Punch is the one that justifies that tag with a length that’s considerably under 4 meters. The exact dimensions and engine specs will be out soon.

Tata Punch Engine Updates

The Tata Punch uses a modified version of the same frame available in the Altroz. The Punch also borrows the same 1.2-litre normal petrol engine and the 5-speed manual and AMT automatic transmission from the Altroz. In the Punch, Tata added ram-air intake technology, which they’re calling Dynapro. It improves the car’s performance at high speeds as it gets more fresh air gushing into the engine.

For better performance in the hills and high altitudes, the Punch AMT gets altitude adjusted performance maps, which automatically engage based on the altitude. The exact engine specs are not available right now. One thing’s for sure though, that at least initially, the Punch will not come with the turbo petrol engine.

In terms of engine specs, we are expecting the power and torque figures to stay about the same as those of the Altroz 1.2 normal petrol, which makes 86PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 3300rpm.

Tata Punch Ground Clearance

The new Tata Punch lives up to the SUV name with a ground clearance of 187mm. It’s nowhere near the 200mm+, which other Tata SUVs offer, but a 187mm clearance is still respectable. The Punch has a 366-litre boot space, which is better than even the Nexon.

Tata Punch Safety Rating

The Punch uses a modified version of the platform, which is used in the Altroz, which earned a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP. So, we’re expecting the Punch to also get at least 4 stars. Tata Motors haven’t announced the exact safety score. This is probably because the car isn’t tested yet by the GNCAP.

Bookings for the Tata Punch are open now for Rs. 21,000. We are expecting the car to go on sale sometime in the second week of October 2021 with deliveries starting before Diwali.
