Made-in-India Volkswagen Virtus Awarded 5-Star Safety Rating By Latin NCAP | V3Cars
The made-in-India Volkswagen Virtus secured a 5-star rating in the recently held Latin NCAP crash test. The rating applies to made-in-India VW Virtus sold in Latin America and Caribbean countries. Meanwhile, Global NCAP is yet to crash test the new Volkswagen Virtus.
Virtus Secures 5-Star Rating In Latin NCAP Crash Test
The Volkswagen Virtus is the newest C-segment sedan in the country. In the recently held Latin NCAP crash test, the Virtus scored a 5-star rating in adult occupant safety. It scored 36.94 points in adult occupant safety. It also scored a 5-star rating in child occupant safety with 45 points. Furthermore, the Virtus scored 25.48 points and 36.54 points in pedestrian safety and safety assist system tests, respectively.

In the frontal impact crash test, the Virtus offered good protection to the driver and co-passenger’s head, neck and knees. It is worth mentioning that the footwell area of the Virtus was rated stable and so was the bodyshell with scope for withstanding further loadings.
Safety Features Of The Tested Virtus
The Volkswagen Virtus that was crash tested was equipped with safety features such as 6 airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters for the driver and co-passenger, ISOFIX anchorages and electronic stability control (ESC). The Latin-America spec Virtus also offers auto emergency braking as an optional equipment.

Are The Crash Results Valid For The India-Spec Virtus?
Given that the Volkswagen Virtus that was tested was made-in-India, it’s safe to assume that the results are also applicable for the India-spec Virtus. However, the India-spec Virtus doesn’t offer auto emergency braking or any other kind of ADAS-related features. The Latin NCAP’s test cycle, rules and procedures are different from that of the Global NCAP. Hence, we will have to wait for the Virtus’ Global NCAP test results before we can judge the safety of the India-spec Virtus.
