Kia Announce Syros Name For Upcoming SUV – To Slot Between Sonet And Seltos | V3Cars

Kia have officially announced the name ‘Syros’ for their upcoming small, sub-4m SUV. The Kia small SUV, which until now was expected to be called the Kia Clavis, could make its global debut in the coming weeks followed by a launch in early 2025.

Kia Syros Name Announced For Upcoming B2-Segment SUV

Why Kia Syros And Not Clavis?

Aside from EVs, Kia’s current nomenclature dictates SUVs get a name starting with ‘S’, like the Seltos and Sonet, while MPVs get a name starting with ‘C’. While the upcoming Kia model is expected to offer a boxy, MPV-like design, Kia are marketing it as the “first Kia 2.0 SUV after the Carnival and EV9.” Thus, Kia have decided to pin their upcoming model with the Syros nameplate rather than Clavis.

According to our sources, the new Kia Syros will be positioned above the Sonet as a more premium and luxurious car in Kia’s portfolio. Compared to the Sonet, the new Syros will prioritise space and comfort while offering an innovative seating layout and lounge-style interiors.

Spy shots of the upcoming Syros suggest the SUV will offer a split-folding bench seat in the 2nd row. However, a closer look at the images reveal a large integrated rear armrest in the middle and wide seat bases for 2 rear passengers. Thus, even if the Syros gets a certification to carry 5 passengers, it’s likely best suited for 4 passengers. Moreover, it may also offer segment-first features such as 2nd row seat ventilation along with a panoramic sunroof and ADAS.

Kia Syros Expected Price And Rivals

Since we expect the upcoming Kia Syros to slot above the Sonet, which is priced from Rs. 7.99 lakh. Given its unique positioning, it can afford to carry a high price tag and still attract enough buyers to justify the R&D expenses and setting up the production line.

The question now is: what production capacity are they setting up for this new SUV? If they only choose to set up a small capacity production of say 1,000 - 2,000 (monthly), then you can expect it to cost as high as Rs. 16.0 lakh to Rs. 18.0 lakh and only come in a couple of loaded variants. Such an approach will limit its availability and make it exclusive.

However, if they intend to produce, say 8,000 - 10,000 units a month, then they may price it a bit more attractively to be able to achieve those volumes. In this case, we can expect it to cost between Rs. 12.0 lakh to Rs. 16.0 lakh. That’s still high but it’s justifiable because of its unique value proposition.
