In this January 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all SUVs in India. We’ll also share our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all SUVs for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.

SUV Segment January 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change

Among the SUVs, the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta were the top 2 performers in January. They were followed by the Maruti Brezza and Tata Punch in terms of volume.
6 SUVs made it into the 5-figure club in January - Nexon, Creta, Brezza, Punch, Venue and Seltos.
In terms of YoY change, MG ZS EV posted a 741% improvement and was the clear top gainer.
Amongst the high volume cars in the category, Toyota Fortuner reported a growth of around 356% and was the best gainer.
Among the notable top losers were Renault Kiger and Honda WR-V with 62% YoY decline, MG Astor with a 53.68% YoY decline and Hyundai Alcazar with a 51.48% YoY drop.

SUV Segment January 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change

Unlike last month, the growth in the mass-market cars was striking. 14 out of the top 15 selling SUVs saw a proper growth in numbers.
Toyota Fortuner was the top gainer mass market SUV with just over 130% MoM rise in January comparison analysis.
Kia Sonet was the second top MoM gainer in January 2023 MoM analysis, with an improvement of 60% over its December sales figures
Amongst the mass-market losers, Honda WR-V was the top loser with 49% MoM decline, followed by Taigun, Kiger and Tiguan with around 45% decline in January over December
