Jeep Compact SUV Spied — Will It Come To India? | V3Cars

New spy shots of the India-bound Jeep compact SUV surfaced online recently. A camouflaged version of the Jeep compact SUV was spied on test, revealing its silhouette and key design elements. Jeep’s new compact SUV will make use of Groupe PSA/Stellantis’ CMP platform, which already underpins the India-spec C3 hatchback.

Last year, Jeep revealed their plans of launching a compact SUV in the Indian market. So far this year, the American brand has already launched the Compass Trailhawk and Jeep Meridian. Going forward, Jeep India will launch the locally-assembled Grand Cherokee later this year. Fast forward to 2023, Jeep India are likely to launch the new compact SUV.

Speaking of its design, the spy shots reveal short front and rear overhangs mated to a tall-riding stance. At the front, we can make out the presence of all-LED headlights and a flat grille in between — possibly the 7-slat Jeep signature unit. At the side, we can see blacked-out alloy wheels and chunky roof rails. At the rear, it gets large LED tail lights, shark-fin antenna and a roof spoiler. With all the aforementioned elements, the design of the Jeep’s compact SUV seems to have reached near production-spec.

We expect Jeep to make the compact SUV fit under the sub-4m tax slab. Jeep are expected to make full use of their alliance with Citroen under the newly formed conglomerate Stellantis. We expect the new Jeep compact SUV to not only use the CMP platform but also the 1.2L turbo petrol engine currently found in the Citroen C3. Rumours also suggest that Jeep India could also offer a hybrid option with the compact SUV, making it part-time 4-wheel-drive. However, this step will result in a steep rise in costs and may not benefit the value-for-money quotient.

Jeep India currently offer the Compass as their most affordable offering. When Jeep made their debut in India, there were multiple rumours about the Renegade coming to India. However, the Renegade never made its way here. The new compact SUV will sit below the Renegade in global markets and is likely to be a sensible rival to new sub-compact SUVs in the Indian market. We recently saw the launch of the new Hyundai Venue facelift whereas Maruti Suzuki are gearing up to launch the new-generation Brezza on June 30.
