Hyundai Creta To Get New 1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine With Facelift | V3Cars

Hyundai recently updated the Creta SUV with BS6 phase-2 compliant engine options. In the transition, the Creta lost its turbo petrol engine while the upcoming Verna will get the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Hyundai may offer this engine upgrade with the Creta facelift. The current 1.35L turbo petrol (also known as 1.4L turbo petrol) engine is not getting the BS6 phase 2 compliance.

Hyundai Creta Facelift

Hyundai have confirmed that the new-generation 2023 Verna will get the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. They’re likely to maintain some gap between introducing the new engine in the market and offering it with their prime product, the Creta. This gap will allow them to gather feedback from the Verna turbo buyers and refine the powertrain before it debuts with the Creta. By that time, the Creta will be ready for its mid-life update. So, the new engine could debut with the Creta facelift.

Hyundai already offer the 1.5L turbo petrol engine in the i30 and we expect this engine to come in a similar state of tune to our shores. In the i30, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine produces 160PS of power at 5500rpm and 253Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 3500rpm. This engine also gets a 48V mild hybrid setup, which not only enhances fuel efficiency but also reduces CO2 emissions. The 2023 Hyundai Verna will offer the choice of both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT with the 1.5L turbo petrol engine. We expect Hyundai to offer the same transmission options for the Creta as well. Such a move will add turbo petrol-manual as another powertrain option for Creta buyers.

Moreover, the 1.5L normal petrol engine is the prime engine option for Creta buyers. So, not having the turbo petrol-automatic powertrain for a while should not hurt Creta’s sales while it waits for the new turbo petrol engine.

Hyundai Creta Facelift In 2024

Hyundai India recently squashed rumours of a possible 2023 launch for the Creta facelift. As per Hyundai, the Creta continues to retain the crown as the best-selling C-segment SUV in India and hence, does not warrant an update anytime soon. Instead, Hyundai will bring the Creta facelift to India in 2024.
