Honda To Launch 1 New Car Every Year In India Till 2028 | V3Cars
Fans of Honda’s cars can rejoice! In an interview with ET Auto, Kunal Behl, the vice president of sales and marketing, Honda Cars India, confirmed the carmaker’s plan to launch 1 new car every year until 2028.
Honda To Launch 1 New Car Every Year
Honda plan to discontinue the 4th-gen City sedan, WR-V sub-compact SUV and Jazz hatchback this year. Once these cars are pulled off the shelves, Honda will only have 2 models — the 5th-gen City and Amaze — in their portfolio.
So far in 2023, Honda have launched the updated City normal petrol and strong hybrid and are likely to introduce their new SUV soon. Honda have now committed to launch a new product — which could either be a new car or a new variant — every year for the next 3 to 5 years. Hence, we could see popular Honda nameplates, such as the Civic sedan and CR-V SUV, make a comeback, possibly via the CKD or CBU route.

Currently, the Honda City and Amaze account for a market share of 2.5%. With the upcoming SUV, Honda aim to increase their share in the Indian 4 wheeler market to 8% with an estimated sales of 92,000 units for this fiscal year. Honda plan to launch more hybrid vehicles in India and could also consider electric vehicles. The upcoming Honda SUV is likely to offer a strong hybrid powertrain like the City apart from a 1.0L turbo petrol engine.
Honda Cars India EV Plans
While Honda have greenlit electric vehicles for the Indian market, Honda currently only offer 1 electric car in global markets — the Honda E. The Honda E offers a small footprint and a range of 220km, thus serving as an ideal urban runabout in European markets. However, it is priced as a premium product (Rs. 30.32 lakh in the UK) and it is unlikely to do well in India, considering the price conscious nature of our market. Hence, Honda Cars India could consider an India-centric low-cost electric vehicle.
