#FirstSpot: The ZS EV Base Model Has The Worst Sound System Setup Among All MG Cars After This Feature Deletion | V3Cars

While scanning the MG ZS brochure, we recently noticed that the ZS base variant no longer gets a full-range speaker. In terms of infotainment features, it continues to get a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity. It also gets Bluetooth for music and calling along with USB and steering-mounted controls. For sound output during audio playback or calls, you only get 2 tweeters.

MG ZS EV Base Model Loses An Infotainment Feature

Among all cars in MG’s lineup, the ZS Executive variant officially has the worst sound system setup. Even the Comet’s base model, which costs under Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom), gets 2 full-range speakers to handle infotainment duties. It’s worth noting that the Comet doesn’t get a touchscreen and displays infotainment details on the 7-inch instrument cluster screen. While the Comet’s speaker is not very high quality, it is certainly a whole lot better than an infotainment with just 2 tweeters. Other, more affordable MG cars such as the Astor base model (Sprint) variant gets 4 speakers while the Windsor base model (Excite) gets 4 speakers and 2 tweeters.

The ZS EV Executive variant continues with the same starting price of Rs. 18.98 lakh in January 2025 and gets no price revision. However, the higher variants are getting a price hike. The magnitude of variant-wise price hike will be revealed soon.

Why This Feature Cut?

If they wanted to cut some features to maintain an affordable price point, then deleting speakers is an easy choice. Being an electric car, buyers are mostly uninterested in adding any aftermarket accessories and want to leave the car’s electricals in factory layout. And deleting the touchscreen would make the car unusable for most buyers. Hence, removing the speakers comes across as an easy choice. Since it’s a simple plug and play system, the dealers will be able to upsell a few overpriced speakers to the buyers at the time of purchase.

This will also give dealers a chance to make some money as the car will feel incomplete at the time of delivery. They would certainly use this opportunity to scare the buyers into buying speakers from them or else, they might lose warranty cover on the entire car.

Having a good touchscreen and other infotainment system pretty much mandates the installation of speakers soon after purchase. Meanwhile, the tweeters are not deleted from the feature list because they come installed in the A pillar and removing those panels may turn off some buyers enough to skip the tweeters altogether.
