#FirstSpot: MG Astor Base Model Loses Some Features | V3Cars

Back in October 2024, we had reported that the MG Astor’s base variant was about to lose some features. Now, we have confirmed from a source that updated models with these changes have indeed started arriving at MG’s sales outlets. While we don’t yet have the live photos to showcase, the brochure on MG’s website is now updated to reflect the changes.

MG are yet to update the car in their configurator/virtual showroom, where the Astor base continues to get chrome accents on the grille. The leather steering feature is removed from the base Sprint and the higher Shine variant.

According to our source material, the Astor base was going to lose features like leather steering wheel and chrome grille. These would not only help MG cut the costs but also help them differentiate the higher variants from the base model. The sub Rs. 10.0 lakh price point of the Astor makes it a compelling choice in its segment, especially because it is the only C-SUV that’s loaded enough to come across as a solid value for money option.

While features like alloy wheels, leather upholstery and sunroof carry a high perceived value, they are not critical for a decent ownership experience. Moreover, for someone looking to buy a car primarily with functional features, the lack of such features is not only worth ignoring, but it’s worth appreciating. Since many cars have such poor feature distribution that you are forced to buy a more expensive variant with style features just to add some functional features to the mix. For instance, Tata consider the rear armrest such a luxury feature, that they offer it in the Creative Plus S variant of the Curvv carrying an ex-showroom price of Rs. 13.70 lakh. Meanwhile, the Astor gets it in the base variant.

MG Astor 2025 Price Hike

MG have also hiked the prices of the Astor for 2025 model year. But the base variant remains at the same ex-showroom price that is 200 bucks short of Rs. 10.0 lakh. The prices of the Astor base and the fully-loaded Savvy Pro with the turbo petrol-automatic powertrain remain as they were in December 2024.
