Ferrari Purosangue SUV - All You Need To Know | V3Cars
Ferrari are all set to jump into the trending Super SUV segment with the upcoming Purosangue SUV. This first SUV offering from the house of Ferrari could gather a large chunk of sales around the globe for the Italian supercar maker. After hearing rumours about it for years, we can finally witness its launch in the coming months.
While we await the launch of this SUV, here are all the key details you should know about it.
-
Design
Recently, spy pictures of a production-ready Purosangue sans camouflage surfaced on the internet, revealing key design highlights. The Purosangue borrows design cues from various other Ferrari models. The headlamp cluster looks very familiar to the slim setup found in the Roma while the long and scooped hood resembles the Portofino.

There is also black body cladding running all around the car to give it a more SUV-ish look. The rear taillights are borrowed from 296 GTB. Below them is a black diffuser housing quad exhaust pipes. The car in the pictures had 5-spoke silver alloy wheels. However, we think they are only for the while the car is in the factory. The production version could get blacked-out multi-spoke alloy wheels we saw on test cars.

Practicality
Not to mention, the Purosangue will be a 4-door SUV, the first Ferrari with 4 doors. This adds to the practicality of the car, probably the reason for the rise of this segment. Super SUVs provide most of the performance and handling of a supercar while also giving a sense of practicality that a supercar can’t. In India, people are afraid of buying supercars as their low ground clearance and our uneven roads do not go well together. A super SUV fills the gap between performance and practicality, while also being capable of tackling some bad roads.

Powertrain
While there is no clarity as to what will power the Purosangue, we expect the engine to be turbocharged to match the characteristics of an SUV. Hence, the naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine without a hybrid setup is unlikely to make its way into the Purosangue. Also, a hybrid V12 will shoot up the prices. Besides, tighter emission norms will not allow the V12 to last long. We are expecting one of two petrol engines in the Purosangue – an 830PS 3.0L twin-turbo V6 hybrid found in the 296 GTB or a 610PS 3.9L twin-turbo V8 engine found in the GTC4 Lusso.

A 7-speed DCT automatic transmission will most likely make its way into the Purosangue. Ferrari will likely offer the Purosangue with a 4-wheel-drive setup. As seen in the images, the long hood suggests that the Purosangue will be a front-mid mounted engine SUV, aiding the handling of this sports SUV.

Launch and Rivals
Rumours of a Ferrari SUV have been around for a while now. People also captured it testing in camouflage many times. And now, we have seen these images of the Purosangue sitting on the assembly line. This hints at an imminent launch of the Purosangue SUV. We are expecting Ferrari to launch this SUV by the end of this year. Once launched, it will rival other performance-focused SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, Aston Martin DBX, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the Audi RS Q8.
