From our source working closely with Kia, we learned that Kia are planning to expand their offerings through the canteen stores department (CSD). According to the source, the Carens MPV is also joining the Kia’s CSD list in May 2023.Kia India recently commenced sales of the Seltos SUV through CSD. Adding more models to the list will help them expand their market share in the country. Kia will make this information official once the Carens also becomes available to Indian military and paramilitary forces through CSD.

Buying through CSD gives the defence personnel exclusive discounts and GST benefits. By expanding its CSD offerings, Kia India hopes to strengthen its relationship with the armed forces and provide them with a wider range of vehicles to choose from.

Maruti Suzuki are currently the dominant player in the CSD vehicles list with a majority of their products on sale through the CSD route. Since they also have more affordable vehicles in their CSD portfolio, they have a greater reach with defence personnels of various ranks. This move will give our defence personnels more options beyond some Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai cars.

It’s worth noting that Kia recently updated their vehicles with BS6 Phase 2 emission norms and added 1.5L turbo petrol to the Carens’ engine options. Kia also doubled down on their auto-clutch manual transmission and made it standard with all of their turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. The carmaker also replaced the older turbo petrol engine of the Carens with the newer, more powerful 1.5L turbo petrol engine.
