All-New, Made-In-India Citroen SUV To Debut On April 27

Citroen sent us a ‘Save The Date’ invite for the new, made-in-India SUV. The invite is for the “global debut of an all-new SUV, entirely designed & engineered in India”, suggesting this new SUV could go on sale in other parts of the world as well. While the details of the upcoming SUV are scarce, we expect it to share its platform and powertrains with the C3.

In fact, the new SUV could be the 7-seater version of the C3 that was caught testing last month. If it is indeed a 7-seater version of the C3, it could be called the C3 Aircross. Citroen already offer an SUV called the C3 Aircross in Europe and the made-in-India model is unlikely to share anything in common with the Euro-spec C3 Aircross. Citroen are likely to sell the made-in-India C3 Aircross in other emerging markets, such as Brazil.

In terms of design, the 7-seater C3 that was caught testing features a very similar front fascia as the made-in-India C3 while the side profile reveals its increased length, higher ground clearance and alloy wheels. At the rear, the 7-seater C3 is likely to get split LED tail lights along with a beefy skid plate. The 7-seater C3 could measure as long as the Hyundai Creta and rival other 7-seater offerings like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Nexa XL6, Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Carens.

Upcoming Citroen SUV Expected Powertrain Options

The 7-seater Citroen C3 could share its powertrains with the C3. The C3 comes with a choice of 2 petrol engine options — 1.2L normal petrol and 1.2L turbo petrol. The 1.2L normal petrol engine produces 82PS of power at 5750rpm and 115Nm at 3750rpm. The 1.2L turbo petrol engine of the C3 produces 110PS of power at 5500rpm and 190Nm of torque at 1750rpm. While the C3 only offers manual transmission options, we expect the new 7-seater Citroen SUV to offer automatic transmission options as well.

Citroen India are likely to reveal more details of their upcoming SUV closer to its global debut. The carmaker could also release a few teasers of the upcoming SUV, giving us a sneak peek to its design and bodystyle. We expect Citroen to open bookings for the new model after its reveal on April 27, while the launch could take place around this year’s festive season.
