Here Are All The Cars And SUVs That Were Discontinued In 2023 | V3Cars
Here’s a list of all the discontinued cars and SUVs in 2023. Our list includes the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Honda Jazz, Skoda Superb and Octavia, and more.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800
Maruti Suzuki discontinued one of their best-selling cars of all time – the Alto 800 – in April 2023. Sales of the Alto 800 witnessed a drop in early 2023 as potential new car buyers held their money back for the new generation of the Alto K10. Towards the beginning of 2023, the Alto 800 was the only Maruti passenger car to utilise the 799cc normal petrol engine and Maruti felt it wasn’t viable to update this engine for BS6 Phase 2 norms. Launched in 2012, Maruti Suzuki sold over 17 lakh units of the Alto 800 until it was discontinued. Meanwhile, the new-gen Alto is only available with the larger and more powerful 1.0L normal petrol engine codenamed the K10.

2. Mahindra KUV100 NXT
The Mahindra KUV100 was launched as the carmaker’s most affordable offering in 2015. Initially sold with petrol and diesel engine options, the KUV100 became a petrol-only model in April 2020 when BS6 emission norms kicked in. The KUV100 was initially offered with 5- and 6-seater options. The KUV100 6-seater featured a bench seat with a foldable middle section in the front row. Once folded, the middle seat could be used as an armrest and it even featured cup holders on the seatback. Between September 2022 and December 2022, Mahindra sold just 3 units of the KUV100 NXT, leading to its discontinuation in April 2023.

3. Honda Jazz And WR-V
Several carmakers discontinued a few cars when BS6 Phase 2 emission norms came into effect in April 2023. Honda discontinued their 1.5L diesel engine in the wake of the more stringent emission norms and also pulled the plug on several of its ageing models, including the Jazz hatchback and WR-V crossover SUV.
With dwindling sales for the Honda Jazz and stiffer competition for the Honda WR-V in the B2-SUV segment, the carmaker decided to discontinue both the models in April 2023. At V3Cars, we loved the Honda Jazz for its ‘magic seats’ feature, which you can read about by clicking the link below.

4. Honda City 4th Gen
Like the cars above, the 4th gen Honda City too was discontinued in April 2023. To Honda’s credit, they kept the 4th gen City on sale alongside the 5th-gen City for almost 3 years. Honda continued to sell 2 of the old City’s variants for under Rs. 10.0 lakh with the petrol-manual powertrain. This was the first time Honda continued to keep the older generation car on sale even after the launch of the new-gen model.

5. Nissan Kicks
Nissan discontinued the Kicks C-segment SUV in April 2023 after they decided not to update the 1.5L normal petrol, 1.3-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine for BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. The Kicks was Nissan’s answer to the best-selling Hyundai Creta, and it was offered with a competitive price tag. However, the lack of updates and the emergence of new rivals in the C-SUV segment resulted in a sales slump, prompting Nissan to take it off the market. Notably, the Kicks had the most powerful engine in the segment at the time in the form of the 1.3L turbo petrol that put out 156PS of power and 254Nm of torque.

5. Skoda Octavia
Skoda launched the 4th-gen Octavia in India in 2021 and did not update the D1-segment sedan since its launch. In April 2023, Skoda delisted the Octavia from their India website, suggesting that the brand wasn’t keen on selling the sedan in the BS6 Phase 2 era. Skoda felt the need to discontinue the Octavia after buyer interest switched from executive sedans to large and imposing SUVs. Sluggish sales also played a part in the Octavia’s discontinuation as Skoda managed to sell only 100 and 82 units of the Octavia in January and February 2023, respectively.
The Skoda Octavia is set to receive a facelift in February 2024 and the carmaker has teased the updated sedan on their social media channels. However, there’s no word on the Octavia’s return to the Indian passenger car market.

6. Skoda Superb
Skoda discontinued the Superb sedan in June 2023, leaving the Slavia as the only sedan in the carmaker’s Indian portfolio. Towards the end of 2023, there were rumours of the Superb making a comeback in limited numbers via the CBU route sometime this year. However, we do not expect these rumours to materialise anytime soon. While the Skoda Superb is no longer on sale, its successor could hit our shores in late 2023 or early 2024. Skoda have unveiled the new Superb sedan with several new features, including Level-2 ADAS. You can read more about the new Superb by clicking the link below.
