BYD India showcased the Seal electric sedan at the Auto Expo 2023. Now, they have listed the EV on their official website. This hints that they are planning to launch the EV in India soon. The Seal’s page on the BYD India website shows information about the electric sedan, such as its platform, powertrain options and performance figures.

The most impressive thing about the Seal is its claimed range of 700km. It achieves this figure with the help of BYD’s Blade Battery technology. The BYD Seal is based on BYD’s dedicated EV platform – the e-Platform 3.0. Other highlights include BYD’s CTB (cell-to-battery) technology that integrates the battery into the body of the vehicle to improve safety, stability, handling and performance. This allows the Seal to have a 50:50 axle load distribution ratio.

The BYD Seal has an impressive drag coefficient of 0.219Cd. The electric sedan can go from 0-100kmph in just 3.8 seconds. Because of its stability, the Seal successfully performed the moose test at a speed of 83.5kmph.

In terms of design, the BYD Seal electric sedan gets an all-glass roof, 4 boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, LED projector headlights, flush-fitting door handles and a full-width LED taillight at the rear. The BYD Seal is 4800mm long, 1875mm wide and 1460mm high and has a wheelbase of 2920mm. The BYD Seal has a boot space of 320 litres.

The BYD Seal comes with 2 battery pack options internationally – 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The 61.4kWh battery pack supports 110kW fast chargers and offers a range of 550km while the bigger 82.5kWh battery supports fast chargers with speeds up to 150kW and offers a range of up to 700km. We will have to wait for its India launch to know which variants we will get here.

The BYD Seal, when launched, will take on the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, EV6 GT, Mercedes-Benz EQB and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. However, its prime rival will be the BMW i4, which is the only other electric sedan in this price range. We expect BYD to launch the Seal this festive season, that is, in the third quarter of 2023. It will likely cost between Rs. 45.0 lakh and Rs. 55.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
