August 2023 Cars Sales Analysis - SUV YoY, MoM Change, 6-Month Trend | V3Cars
In this August 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM changes in sales figures of all SUVs in India. We’ll also share our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all SUVs for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
SUV Segment August 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- There are currently 41 SUVs on sale in the Indian car market, out of which, 13 belong to the B2-segment(36%). The segment-wise distribution of the SUV in India is as follows:
- A-segment – 0
- B1-segment – 1
- B2-segment – 15
- C1-segment – 10
- C2-segment – 5
- D1-segment – 7
- D2-segment – 3
- Single SUV from the B1 segment sells more units than the C and D segments combined.
- Among the SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Punch were the top 2 sellers in August, with 14,572 and 14,523 units sold, respectively.
- Amongst the mass-market cars in the category, Taigun was the top gainer with 90.68% YoY gains in the August comparison. analysis. Scoka Kodiaq was the second-best gainer in YoY comparison in August with 59.60% gains.
- 7 SUVs made it into the 5-figure club in August - Brezza, Punch, Creta, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Venue, and Seltos.
- Among the notable top losers were Citroen C5 AirCross and Jeep Compass with 84% and 81.32% YoY drop in sales respectively.

SUV Segment August 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- Citroen EC3 was the top gaining mass market SUV with just over 450% MoM rise in August comparison analysis.
- Kia EV6 was the second top MoM gainer in the August 2023 MoM analysis, with an improvement of 180% over its July sales figures.
- Amongst the mass-market losers, Citroen C5 AirCross was the top loser with a 50% MoM decline, followed by Tiguan with around 46% decline in MoM numbers in August comparison.
