In this August 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. D-Segment Cars August 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

  • SUVs and MPVs continue to rule the D-segment, with the Scorpio, Innova, XUV700, Carens and Harrier taking up the top 5 spots
  • In fact, the top 10 bestselling D-segment cars are all SUVs or MPVs
  • In August YoY sales comparison, the Mahindra Scorpio showed a massive growth of 170.76% thanks to the introduction of the all new Scorpio N and the updated Scorpio Classic.
  • Skoda Superb is the top-selling sedan in the D-segment, with 135 units dispatched in August 2022, which was 25% lower than that of August 2021
  • The Toyota Hilux is the only pick-up truck in the D-segment.
  • MG and Mahindra don’t provide separate figures for their 5-seater and 7-seater D-segment SUVs
  • The MG Gloster was the top loser in August YoY comparison, with a 47.29% decline in sales

D-Segment Cars August 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change

  • In terms of MoM performance too, the Scorpio sisters were the best-selling cars in the D-segment, rising to the top with a growth of 85.5 in August 2022 over July2022
  • The Scorpio twins were followed by the Kodiaq and Tiguan in second and third, with an MoM growth of 37.27% and 25%, respectively
  • The sales of the Toyota Vellfire MPV finally entered 3-digits in August, rising from 44 dispatches in July to 118 in August
  • The Mahindra Marzzo was the biggest MoM loser, with a near 80% decline in sales
