In this August 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the manufacturer-wise sales figures along with the YoY and MoM change for each carmaker in India. We’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of car sales for all manufacturers.

Brand-Wise August 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

  • In terms of percentage, Citroen posted the best YoY improvement of 1600% because of the low numbers in August 2021 and the addition of the C5 Aircross recently should help improve these numbers further. Another point to be noted is that Citroen is not yet a mass volume manufacturer
  • Among the mass volume carmakers, Mahindra posted the best gain numbers in August YoY comparison, with an 87.6% rise in sales
  • Tata posted the second best YoY gains of around 68%
  • The only losers were Honda, MG and Renault, posting a decline of 30.5%, 2% and 27.7%, respectively

  • In terms of MoM change, most of manufacturers saw a decline in sales in August over July 2022
  • Citroen were the top MoM gainer, with a 32.35% growth
  • Volkswagen were the top loser with a 41.71% lower MoM production figure
  • Tata, Kia, Hyundai and Renault all saw MoM changes of under 2% and their dispatches can be considered fairly consistent
