Audi And Porsche Likely To Join F1 In 2026 | V3Cars
The Volkswagen Group has been eyeing an entry into F1 racing for some time now. With new engine regulations kicking in from 2026, VW AG is looking forward to joining the motorsport event with its Audi and Porsche brands. Fans can expect to see these 2 German marques in the sport in the new engine era.
According to reports, Audi will partner with McLaren while Porsche will team up with Red Bull. However, there is no concrete knowledge as of now if these automakers will join only as engine and parts suppliers or as one of the constructors, or team in layman's terms.

Currently, Honda provide engines for Red Bull F1 cars. They helped Max Verstappen, racing for Red Bull, win the F1 World Championship in 2021. However, Honda are expected to leave the sport after the current hybrid engine era citing climate change concerns. Hence, Red Bull will be looking for new engine suppliers and Porsche could be an ideal choice.

All current F1 cars use a 1.6L turbocharged V6 hybrid engine. The current engine regulations were introduced in 2014 and will stay in effect till 2025. The new regulations that will come into effect in 2026 will need the engine to run on completely sustainable fuel. The engine will continue to use the turbocharged V6 but with bigger electric components. Hence, they will emit net zero carbon emissions.
Ross Brawn, Managing Director of Motorsports for F1 Group, said, “In 2026 at the latest — and maybe even earlier — you will have to race with a sustainable fuel, in other words, a net carbon zero fuel. So, the way that fuel is made, is produced, has to be net carbon zero. And this will be a plug-in fuel that you would be able to put into a road car, so it’s another weapon in the fight against the environmental challenge. But that’s actually why we’re seeing manufacturers take a much stronger interest in the sport because they can see the value of that involvement, and it’s no secret to say Volkswagen with Porsche and Audi are having a very close look at F1 and that’s one of the reasons why they’re interested.”
