2025 Tata Sierra EV — Only Slow AC Charging! No DC Fast Charging Port? | V3Cars

The recently-surfaced production-ready photos of the Sierra EV may not actually be of a production-ready version after all. As you can see in the pictures, the car gets a small charging port flap in the left rear quarter panel. This isn’t large enough to allow you to plug a full-size CCS-2 gun. In fact, in an old promo video, it hides the smaller Type-2 AC socket for charging.

Tata Sierra EV 2025 Doesn’t Seem To Have A DC Fast Charging Port

Along the front, you can see that there’s no visible cutout for the bigger CCS-2 DC charging gun either. Nor do you see a charging cover flap on the right side of the car — on the fender or the quarter panel.

Typically, modern EVs get a charging port on the front facia. This makes it much easier to move the car into a charging station parking spot than if the car had it in the back over one of the rear wheels. Examples of this are the Punch EV, Curvv EV, Comet EV and the MG ZS EV. In case you don’t find the ideal spot to park the car at a charging station, having the port in the front makes it a bit easier to get the fun to reach the car and plug in.

Tata have a front charging port in their modern EVs, which have an EV-specific skateboard platform. The Punch EV and Curvv EV are prime examples of this. It would be foolish to expect Tata to not only deviate from their standards but also remove DC fast charging ability. Or offer a new charging gun standard other than the CCS-2. So, we expect Tata to offer a similar setup with the Sierra EV as well.

That means a front changing port with CCS-2, which is also compatible with AC Type-2 guns. However, the spied Sierra EV doesn’t even seem to have a DC fast charging setup. This means that the car recently spotted is probably an older show-and-display variant.
