Tata Harrier EV Spied With Rear-Mounted Electric Motor | V3Cars

Tata Motors is set to launch the all-electric Tata Harrier EV this financial year (before March 31, 2025). The Harrier EV electric SUV was spotted testing recenly, and the latest spy shots reveal the SUV’s electric motor mounted on the rear axle. Earlier this year, Tata Motors showcased the Harrier EV concept at the first-ever Bharat Mobility Global Expo, giving us a good idea of the upcoming electric SUV's design. In this article, we take a look at the expected powertrain specifications of the upcoming Harrier EV.

2025 Tata Harrier EV Rear Electric Motor Spied – Expected Powertrain Specs

While Tata Motors are yet to reveal the Harrier EV’s electric motor specs, battery capacity and range, we expect them to offer it with a 60kWh battery pack, which should give the Harrier EV a claimed range of over 500km per charge.

Earlier this year, we wrote an opinion column about Tata Motors being the only major car manufacturer in India without a 4WD option. Now, Tata Motors seems poised to address this issue by equipping the Harrier EV with dual electric motors, one on each axle. The recent spy shots reveal the Harrier EV’s rear-mounted electric motor, which when paired with the electric motor at the front, will give the upcoming SUV all-wheel drive capabilities.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors have confirmed some of the Harrier EV’s features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technologies. V2L technology allows electric vehicles to act as mobile power sources. An EV equipped with V2L technology can be used to power external devices and appliances such as power tools, electrical camping equipment and even household appliances like TVs and refrigerators during a power outage.

V2V, on the other hand, is a communication technology between vehicles. Vehicles equipped with V2V can "talk" to each other, exchanging information about their location, speed, and direction. This information sharing helps improve safety on the road by warning drivers of potential hazards (like sudden braking ahead), reducing the risk of accidents, and enabling features like automated platooning (vehicles driving close together in a coordinated way).

2025 Tata Harrier EV Design Changes

Although the Tata Harrier EV shares several of its design elements with the Harrier ICE, it is based on Tata’s new Acti.ev electric scalable platform. The Acti.ev made its debut in the form of the Tata Punch EV and Tata say this platform can accommodate larger electric vehicles as well.

Up front, the Harrier EV will offer a full-width LED DRL as well as different upper and lower grille over the Harrier ICE. The side profile of the Harrier electric and diesel are pretty much identical, save for the aero-optimised alloy wheels spotted in the latest spy shots. The rear end too is likely to remain unchanged apart from the obvious lack of exhaust outlets on the lower side of the bumper.
