Electric Creta 2025 — Starting Price Expectation

First, let’s try and establish the starting price of the Creta EV. We know the landscape and it includes the Tata Curvv EV, the MG ZS EV, the BYD Atto3 and on the more affordable spectrum, the MG Windsor EV. These are the price competitors of the Hyundai Creta Electric.

Tata Curvv EV (Approx Ex-Sh Price Range Rs. 17.50 - 22.0 lakh)

The Curvv EV has Tata’s experience and band cache to count on when it comes to electric cars. We have all see a lot of Tata Tigors running around as cabs while the Nexon EV has been on sale for several years now. That may lead many buyers to believe that Tata are the segment leader in the electric car market and for good reason. So, Hyundai don’t have the upper hand when it comes to challenging the Curvv EV.

With the Curvv petrol/diesel, the Creta is a bigger thread and that’s why the Curvv starts at a much lower price. But, with the electric powertrain, the Curvv is clearly a stronger brand and Hyundai will have to keep that in mind.

Now, the Curvv EV starts at Rs. 17.50 lakh but its base trim is not bare bones. The fact that the Creta electric will come in a variant called Executive suggests that unlike Tata, Hyundai plan to offer a basic variant of the Creta EV as well. So, we can’t expect the Hyundai Creta EV to beat the Curvv EV in terms of starting price. In fact, to create some breathing room in the conversations, they will have to maintain a decent price gap from the Curvv EV.

MG ZS EV (Approx Ex-Sh Price Range Rs. 19.0 - 26.50 lakh)

The MG ZS EV is also a tough challenger and it has been around for a good while now while Hyundai are just entering the EV space. The ZS EV starts around Rs. 19.0 lakh but it’s also available with some discounts, which suggests that the price at which it might sell in larger numbers is around Rs. 18.0 lakh. Here too, you don’t get a barebones base variant although the ZS EV is now lacking severely in the infotainment department.

On the upper limit, the ZS EV’s prices go as high as ~Rs. 26.50 lakh.

BYD Atto3 (Approx Ex-Sh Price Range Rs. 25.0 - 34.0 lakh)

The BYD Atto3 technically is a challenger for the Creta electric. But, since BYD plan to establish themselves as a luxury carmaker in India, they will continue to sell it at a higher than segment price range. The Atto3 is not even a real challenger for the Creta EV.

MG Windsor EV (Approx Ex-Sh Price Range Rs. 14.0 - 16.0 lakh)

The Windsor EV’s launch price was quite good at Rs. 13.50 lakh. Throw in 1-year worth of free public charging and lifetime battery warranty and it became a nice deal. It is about as long as the Creta but wider than all C-segment SUVs. The only thing working against it is its weird, bubbly looks.

After the 2025 price hike of Rs. 50,000, it’s not looking as attractive any more. Especially since MG also withdrew the free public charging offer, the value proposition is severely ruined.

Regardless, it comes across as a tough challenger for the Creta EV and MG’s efforts towards arresting the demand for Windsor may inadvertently take some pressure off the Creta electric. Thus, making it easier for Hyundai to find a nice pricing spot.

Mahindra BE6 (Approx Ex-Sh Price Range Rs. 18.90 - 26.90 lakh)

Another big thorn in Creta EV’s path is the Mahindra BE6. It not only offers a larger battery as standard, it also gets flashy styling and a host of tech features, which are worthy of a conversation among your peers. Thankfully, its upper price limit will give the Creta electric some breathing room.

On a positive side, the industry expectation that Mahindra may not be able to deliver reliability with such a revolutionary and tech-laden product is also valid. So, the Creta Electric can breathe easy knowing that they have a challenge in the BE 6 but it doesn’t have the same overlapping set of buyers who want a smooth and predictable ownership experience.

2025 Hyundai Creta Electric — Expected Price Summary

Let’s go through the logic for each 2025 Creta EV variant starting with understanding the 42kWh trims.

Hyundai Creta Electric 2025 42kWh Variants Expected Price

Here’s our logic behind the expected price of each of the four 42kWh variants of the Hyundai Creta Electric 2025:

  • Executive — Rs. 16.50 lakh: Considering that Hyundai are choosing to offer a variant of the Creta electric called Executive suggests that they are trying to hit an attractive starting price point. Since Executive variants usually are somewhat basic in comparison to others. A Rs. 16.50 lakh starting price would safely help the Creta EV position itself away from and above the Windsor, which now starts at Rs. 14.0 lakh. Meanwhile, the proximity of the Windsor EV top model’s price of Rs. 16.0 lakh may bring the Creta EV into the consideration of at least some Windsor EV buyers who are not yet sold on its bubbly exterior and the dolphin nose side profile.

Moreover, the Curvv EV starts at Rs. 17.50 lakh. A Rs. 1.0 lakh incentive is enough to convince some buyers to consider a well known brand like ‘Creta’ over a new entity like Curvv. Meanwhile, the Rs. 1.0 lakh gap will also help it bring in some buyers who don’t want all of the flash and just want a simple electric car from a well-known brand with a not-too-flashy styling. This price also helps the Creta electric safely distance itself from the over-the-top flashy and tech-loaded BE 6E. It also undercuts the MG ZS EV, which BTW, gets such an older battery chemistry and MG won’t bother offering lifetime warranty with the ZS EV.

  • Smart — Rs. 18.0 lakh: The jump from the Executive to the Smart variant will signify a substantial upgrade in terms of must-have features from a car at this price point. This is the variant, which will compete against the Curvv EV’s base trim. And this is where the Creta EV might exercise its brand dominance over the Curvv EV with a Rs. 50,000 price premium while offering comparable features. This is also where Hyundai might charge you more than the features’ worth because they are mostly must-haves. And, if you are already sold on the Creta EV concept, then you wouldn’t mind paying a little more for them.
  • Smart (O) — Rs. 19.0 lakh: This variant will most likely bring a panoramic sunroof into the mix, The high desirability and perceived value of a sunroof along with its low manufacturing cost could make this variant quite attractive for several buyers. Hyundai may even throw a few extra features along with the sunroof to make it a compelling upgrade.
  • Premium — Rs. 20.0 lakh: This is where the smaller battery pack variants are likely to top out. It’s important for this variant to respect the psychological barrier of Rs. 20.0 lakh. So, based on your range requirements, if you only want the smaller battery, you can just freeze your upper limit of budget to 20 lakhs.

Hyundai Creta Electric 2025 51.4kWh Variants Expected Price

  • Smart (O) — Rs. 20.0 lakh: At the Rs. 20.0 lakh price point, the Smart (O) with larger battery capacity will most likely become the point of confusion for several buyers. Should you go for a better equipped 42kWh Premium variant or the lower Smart (O) with a higher battery pack? This price overlap will help Hyundai convince some buyers to start thinking about buying the larger battery pack option.
  • Excellence — Rs. 22.0 lakh: Once you’re in the frame of mind of buying the Creta EV with the larger battery, the jump to the Excellence variant shouldn’t pinch you much. Here, you will get all the ADAS goodness. This is where the Creta Electric and the Curvv EV go head-to-head in terms of features, performance and range.

While the Curvv EV may have a higher range on paper, as we have seen with other Tata EVs, in the real world will be at least 25% lower than promised. Tata Motors also are quoting a real-world range estimate of 425km. That’s within our estimate range of 25-30% drop compared to Tata’s quoted range (410 - 440km). Since Hyundai’s real-world range estimates are likely to deviate less from the initial quotes, we can expect the Curvv EV to deliver about the same range as the Creta Electric while consuming more electricity.
