2024 Citroen Basalt Awarded 4-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating | V3Cars
Launched in August 2024, the Citroen Basalt offers buyers a stylish coupe-SUV design at a competitive price without compromising on safety. Recently, the 2024 Basalt underwent rigorous crash tests conducted by the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) and achieved a 4-star rating. Here’s how the coupe-SUV from Citroen performed in the latest crash tests.
Citroen Basalt – Adult Occupant Protection
The Basalt excelled in protecting adult occupants during a frontal offset deformable barrier test, scoring a respectable 26.19 points out of 32 points. The Basalt scored 10.19 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, with the driver's chest, pelvis, and legs receiving marginal protection. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Basalt achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points, demonstrating excellent protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
Citroen Basalt – Child Occupant Protection
In the child occupant protection test, the Basalt scored 35.90 points out of 49 points. It scored 12 out of 12 points in the child restraint system test. While the 3-year-old child's frontal impact protection was rated as marginal, the overall performance was satisfactory. The vehicle's standard safety features, such as ISOFIX child seat mounts and seatbelt reminders, contribute to its child safety capabilities.

Comprehensive Safety Features
The Citroen Basalt comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including 6 airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a reverse parking camera with sensors. These features provide added peace of mind for drivers and passengers.
Powertrain Options
The Basalt is available with 2 engine options: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 110PS of power and 190Nm (MT) or 250Nm (AT) of torque and a 1.2-litre normal petrol engine producing 82PS of power and 115Nm of torque.

Priced from Rs. 7.99 lakh to Rs. 13.62 lakh (ex-showroom), the Citroen Basalt rivals B2-SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO, among others in terms of price. It also rivals the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, and MG Astor, among others in the C-SUVs.
