Plus Variant

Once you have been through the variants explained, you’ll better understand our justification here. Assuming that you have given it a scroll, let’s get started.

The Plus non-turbo variant gets features worth about Rs. 85,000 over the Basalt base model. For these features, we expect Citroen to charge around Rs. 1.0 lakh to Rs. 1.15 lakh premium. Thus, we expect the Plus non-turbo to cost Rs. 9.15 lakh.

Then, the Plus turbo gets more features, which justify a price jump of about Rs. 1.40 lakh over the base model. For these, you can expect Citroen to charge around Rs. 1.50 lakh. Moreover, the turbo petrol engine itself offers better performance, mileage and one extra gear. For a typical ownership of 50,000km, these differences warrant an upgrade cost of about Rs. 1.0 lakh to Rs. 1.05 lakh. Therefore, it justifies about Rs. 2.45 lakh worth of price jump from the base variant.

We expect Citroen to charge about Rs. 2.55 lakh for the Plus turbo petrol-manual over the base model. With this estimation, we arrive at Rs. 10.70 lakh ex-showroom price. This price also makes it worthy of consideration for buyers interested in base variants of a C-segment SUV as it undercuts most of them.

Since Citroen charge around Rs. 1.30 lakh for the torque converter automatic, the Rs. 10.70 lakh price also allows them to price the Plus turbo petrol-automatic at Rs. 12.0 lakh. Or Rs. 11.99 lakh for marketing purposes.

Max Variant

The top variant adds another Rs. 85,000 worth of features to the mix. For these, we expect Citroen to charge around Rs. 1.0 lakh, which is high but still reasonable. Thus, you may get the Max turbo petrol-manual with a sticker price of Rs. 11.70 lakh while the Max petrol-automatic may cost Rs. 13.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

We’re here assuming that like their other cars, Citroen might launch the Basalt in 3 trims. With these prices, the Basalt base turbo will remain under Rs. 10.0 lakh and make quite a bit of sense for people who want some driving pleasure. Meanwhile, this will also bring in enough confusion for them to prefer the normal petrol mid variant, which offers a decent feature set.

The Basalt turbo base model will also be able to compete with the Fronx turbo, which is currently under Rs. 10.0 lakh (before offers). Here, the Basalt will have a significant upper hand over the Fronx and other popular B2 SUVs as it not only offers significantly better space but also superior styling and road presence.
