MG Comet EV Spotted In Gurugram

While MG are yet to announce the launch date for their upcoming small electric vehicle, the spotted car hints towards an imminent launch. Unlike other test cars that wear the standard white and black stripe camouflage, the Comet EV was spotted with a colourful camouflage and “OTW” branding around the side. OTW could denote On The Way and it could be MG’s way of announcing its arrival.

MG Comet EV Exterior Details

MG also revealed the first images of the Comet EV a couple of weeks ago. The official images revealed that it looks identical to its cousin — the Wuling Air EV. The Comet EV is likely to measure around 3 metres in length and offer a wheelbase of 2000mm. It will offer a 2 door bodystyle with seating for up to 4 passengers. It remains to be seen whether it will offer a tailgate or just a small storage space accessible from the inside.

MG Comet EV Expected Features

In terms of features, the Comet EV is likely to offer twin 10.25-inch connected screens, climate control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, electric parking brake, power-adjustable ORVMs, steering-mounted controls, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, LED headlights and LED tail lights.

MG Comet EV Expected Powertrain Details

MG are yet to reveal the powertrain details of the Comet EV. The Wuling Air EV offers 2 battery pack options in the international market — 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh. The 17.3kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of up to 200km on a single charge, while the 26.7kWh battery pack offers a range of 300km. Both variants come with a  40PS electric motor. We are yet to learn whether MG will offer one of the 2 mentioned battery packs or offer a new battery pack for our market.

MG Comet EV Expected Launch Timeline, Price And Rivals

MG Motor India are likely to launch the Comet EV in mid 2023. The prices of the Comet EV could start from Rs. 10 lakh ex-showroom. It is likely to rival the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3, which are bigger hatchback than the Comet EV. However, the Comet EV is likely to offer more connectivity features and entertainment features to attract young car buyers.
