The 2023 Verna will continue to share its 1.5L normal petrol engine with the Hyundai Creta. This engine was recently updated to comply with BS6 phase-2 emission norms and it is also E20 fuel-ready. In the Creta, this engine produces 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque and comes with either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) transmission. The 2nd engine is a 1.5L turbo petrol, which will make its India debut with the 2023 Verna. This engine powers a range of Hyundai cars globally, including the i30 hatchback. In the i30, this turbo petrol engine offers 160PS of power and 253Nm of torque. While Hyundai are yet to reveal the power and torque figures of the Verna equipped with this engine, they have confirmed that it will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Since Hyundai announced the 2023 Verna with only 2 petrol engine options, that indirectly confirms that the sedan will not offer a diesel engine option. This leaves the C-segment sedan space with no diesel offering. The Honda City diesel was discontinued recently and Honda are all set to launch the 2023 City facelift as a petrol-only model. Both the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia only offer 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol engines while the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz comes with a1.5L normal petrol engine.
