2023 Ford Explorer Electric Exterior Details

The Explorer electric SUV takes some design cues from the ICE-powered Explorer, which is also on sale in a few European markets. However, its flat front grille and flowing design make its electric genes apparent. Up front, the Explorer EV boasts an enclosed grille with the letters ‘EXPLORER’ spread across. It gets L-shaped LED headlights with slim inverted DRLs and a silver finished front grille.

Around the side, the electric Explorer offers dual-tone machined alloy wheels and a blacked out glasshouse — giving it a flowing design. The only intrusion by today’s EV standards is the presence of conventional door handles, which jut out quite a bit when compared to the flush-fitting door handles seen on modern day EVs. At the rear, the Explorer gets C-shaped LED tail lights along with a black applique that connects the tail lights.

2023 Ford Explorer Interior And Features

The first thing that will attract your attention once you make your way into the new Explorer is the vertically-stacked, 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system runs on Ford’s latest SYNC move OS, which supports wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also conceals a secret storage space that can be accessed by electronically sliding the touch screen upwards.

Speaking of storage, the Explorer also offers a 17L storage compartment in the centre console that can house a 15-inch laptop. In terms of convenience and luxury, the Explorer Electric offers a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate control.

2023 Ford Explorer Powertrain Details

Ford are yet to reveal the powertrain details of the new Explorer Electric SUV. However, they have revealed the new Explorer EV will sit on Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform that underpins a range of Volkswagen and Skoda electric models. Ford claim that owners of the Explorer Electric will be able to charge their SUV from 10 - 80% in just 25 minutes via a DC fast charger.

2023 Ford Explorer Launch Details

Ford will offer the electric Explorer in European market in 2 trim levels — Select and Premium. Interested buyers will get the option to order the all-electric Explorer towards the end of 2023. We expect Ford to announce the powertrain details and pricing of the new Explorer Electric soon. Since Ford have left the Indian market, we do not expect the carmaker to launch the Explorer Electric in India anytime soon.
