2023 BMW XM Plug-In Hybrid Petrol Electric SUV Launched In India At Rs. 2.60 Crore | V3Cars
BMW today launched their flagship SUV, the XM plug-in hybrid petrol electric SUV at Rs. 2.60 crore (ex-showroom). It has a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 petrol engine. The combined power and torque output of the XM stands at 653PS and 800Nm, respectively. The engine alone makes a healthy 489PS of power at 5400rpm. The power output stays flat for up to 7200rpm as this engine revs much higher than a typical petrol engine. The 650Nm of peak torque output of this powertrain comes at 1600rpm and stays out till 5000rpm giving it a lot of pulling power in pretty much any gear.
However, the big highlight of the XM SUV is its electric side. It gets a 29.5kWh battery pack to power an electric motor capable of making a respectable 197PS of power and 280Nm of torque. In the EV mode alone, the XM can drive up to a top speed of 140kmph and cover 80 - 90km with a full charge. Speaking of charging, you don’t have to burn petrol to charge up the battery as it’s a plug-in-hybrid and can be charged in about 4 hours.
So, for a typical commute, this flagship luxury SUV will drive quieter than any petrol or diesel luxury car without even burning a drop of fuel. But, when you want to take the wheel on a weekend, the XM has enough performance to challenge sportscars and exotics on their own turf. After all, it has a 0 - 100kmph acceleration time of just 4.3 seconds, thanks in part to the 8-speed torque converter automatic and 4-wheel drivetrain.

This combination of personalities makes the XM a great choice for buyers who want a car, which is not only sensational to drive but also great to chauffeur you around. The BMW XM’s design helps it stand out but it also has a road presence of a luxury barge measuring 5110mm long, 2005mm wide and 1755mm tall. To put things into perspective, any car measuring around 5 metres long is already absurdly big and the XM is even bigger.
The BMW XM has the following notable features:
- Exclusive M model after the M1
- BMW kidney grille w/ lights
- 21-inch alloy wheels
- BMW curved display
- 14.9-inch touchscreen
- 12.3-inch colour LCD instrument cluster
- Head-up display
The BMW XM competes with some exotic and uber-luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS, Land Rover Range Rover, Lamborghini Urus and Audi RS Q8.
