Safest MPVs You Can Buy In India

It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This rule applies to an extra row of seats and safety features. They both remain mostly unused until you need them, and when you need them, they become indispensable. Here are the 5 safest MPVs you can buy in India.

Safest MPVs GNCAP Tested

1. Mahindra Marazzo

marazzo

At number 1 spot is the Mahindra Marazzo with 12.85 points out of 17 for adult safety and 22.22 out of 49 in child safety. The overall star rating for adult and child safety stands at 4 star and 2 star, respectively.

The Marazzo is not only the only body-on-frame MPV on this list, it's also the only body-on-frame car with a front-wheel drive layout in India and probably, even in the entire world. It’s certainly special but the lack of a petrol engine and automatic transmission keeps it out of several buyers’ shortlist.

2. Renault Triber

Triber

The Renault Triber’s 11.62 point score out of 17 in adult safety is commendable considering its low ex-showroom price. It is, after all, the most affordable MPV on this list. In child safety, the Triber scored 27 points out of 49. The Triber’s overall rating stands at 4 stars for adult safety and 3 stars for child safety.

The Triber also happens to offer much better boot space in 2-row seating configuration because of the removable 3rd row seats.

3. Kia Carens

Carens

The Kia Carens is the only MPV sold in India that had 6 airbags in the GNCAP crash tests. It’s the only MPV on this list to offer 6 airbags as standard on all variants. The Carens has a middle-of-the-road adult safety score of 9.3 out of 17 and child safety score of 30.99 out of 49. The final rating of the Kia Carens is 3 stars for adult as well as child safety.

It even has a starting ex-showroom price of just under Rs. 10 lakh, making it fairly affordable considering that it’s a large, D-segment MPV. In fact, the Carens is the most affordable D-segment car across all body styles and the only one below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
