While there is no denying the fact that electric mobility is the future, range anxiety is still an issue for most electric car buyers in India. With our understanding, we think that more than 500km of claimed range on a single charge could be more than enough for most of the car buyers’ commute.

Several new EVs launched in India in the past few days with a price tag north of Rs. 30 lakh are claiming a range of more than 500km. In real-world conditions, if they are able to cover even 400km+ on a single charge, we think it should be sufficient to do intercity travel along with some long drives as well. With proper planning, these EVs can make your ownership experience better and reduce your range anxiety.

Here is a list of EVs sold in India with a claimed range of more than 500km:

1. BMW i4

BMW i4

BMW launched their entry-level EV in the market last year, the i4. It is based on the 4-Series Gran Coupe and uses an 80.7kWh battery pack and has a WLTP-ceritfied range of up to 590km on a single charge. The maximum power and torque figures stand at 545PS and 795Nm respectively. The i4 takes around 9 hours to charge with an 11kW charger. The prices of the i4 start from Rs. 73.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

2. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Ioniq 5

Hyundai launched the Ioniq 5 EV in India at the Auto Expo 2023. The electric SUV comes with a 72.6kWh battery pack, offering an ARAI-certified range of 631km on a single charge. The single motor setup delivers a power and torque output of 217PS and 350Nm, respectively. The Ioniq 5 takes about 18 minutes to charge from 10-80% with a 350kW DC charger. The Ioniq 5 costs Rs. 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Kia EV6

Kia EV6

Kia launched the EV6 in India last year as a CBU import. It is powered by a 77.5kWh battery pack. It comes in 2 drivetrain options – rear-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive. The RWD model produces 229PS of power and the 4WD model produces 325PS of power and 605Nm of torque. It has a WLTP-certified range of 528km whereas the ARAI-claimed range goes up to 708km. A 50kW fast DC charger can charge the EV6 from 10-80% in 73 minutes. The Kia EV6 costs between Rs. 60.95 lakh and Rs. 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

4. BYD E6

BYD E6

BYD made their debut in India with the E6, initially for business customers but later for private consumers as well. The E6 uses a 71.1kWh battery. It produces 95PS of power and 180Nm of torque. BYD claim a city range of up to 520km with the E6. A DC fast charger can juice it from 30-80% in 35 minutes. The E6 is priced at Rs. 29.15 lakh.

5. BYD Atto 3

Atto 3

BYD’s second product in the Indian market is the Atto 3 electric SUV. The Atto 3 uses a 60.5kWh battery pack, which delivers a claimed range of 521km. A single motor setup is mounted at the front axle of the car and it delivers a power output of 204PS and torque output of 310Nm. The SUV takes about 10 hours to charge completely via a 7.4kW AC charger. The Atto 3 costs between Rs. 34.0 lakh and Rs. 34.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

6. Mercedes EQS

Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 4 Matic+

The Mercedes Benz EQS is the flagship electric saloon from the German carmaker. The EQS packs in a 107.8kWh battery pack. It has a claimed range of 580km for the AMG variant and 857km for the EQS 580 variant. The dual motor setup produces 523PS of power and 855Nm of torque in the EQS 580 variant while it produces 761PS of power and 1020Nm of torque in the AMG variant. The prices of the EQS start from Rs. 1.55 crore (ex-showroom).

7. BMW i7

BMW i7

BMW i7 is the flagship electric sedan from BMW. It packs a 101.7kWh battery pack that is placed between the front and rear axles. The battery pack channels power to 2 electric motors mounted at each axle. The combined power and torque outputs of the BMW i7 stand at 544PS and 745Nm. It can do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.7 seconds whereas its top speed is limited to 240kmph. The i7 offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 625km on a single charge. The BMW i7 electric sedan is priced at Rs. 1.95 crore (ex-showroom).

8. Audi E-Tron GT

The Audi E-Tron GT is Audi’s flagship EV offering in India and it sits below the performance-centric E-Tron RS GT. The E-Tron GT comes with a 83.7kWh battery pack, which channels power to 2 electric motors mounted at each axle. It offers power and torque outputs of 530PS and 630Nm, respectively. With the help of a 270kW DC fast charger, the E-Tron GT can be charged from 5-80% in just 22.5 minutes. The E-Tron GT can drive up to 500km on a single charge and it costs Rs. 1.70 crore (ex-showroom)
