Are you planning to buy an electric car or EV soon? Is range anxiety the reason why you haven’t taken the EV plunge yet? Well, with the likes of the recently launched Tata Nexon EV Max, range anxiety could soon become a thing of the past.
Of late, several carmakers have introduced new EVs that offer a range of 400km or more from a single charge. These include affordable options such as the Nexon EV Max and MG ZS EV to premium electric cars such as the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Audi e-tron GT. Here’s a list of electric cars or EVs sold in India that offer over 400km of range from a single charge.
The Tata Nexon EV Max, which was launched on May 11, is currently the most affordable electric SUV that offers a claimed range of over 400km. With a claimed range of 437km, the Nexon EV Max is capable of covering significantly more ground than the standard Nexon EV.
During our test, we found that the Nexon EV Max can deliver a range of 300km in real-world conditions. However, the range is entirely dependent on your driving style, driving conditions, driving mode and regen braking level.

The Nexon EV Max uses a 40.5kWh battery. The motor produces 143PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It can charge from 0-100% in under 7 hours with a 7.2kW home charger. The Nexon EV Max is priced between Rs. 17.74 lakh and Rs. 18.74 lakh. The 7.2kW charger can be bought separately for Rs. 50,000.

MG launched the ZS EV facelift in March this year. The MG ZS EV facelift comes with a 50.3kWh battery. MG says the updated ZS EV has a claimed range of 461km per charge.
During our test, we found the MG ZS EV capable of delivering a range of 300km in real-world conditions. The ZS EV’s electric motor produces 176PS of power and 280Nm of torque. The ZS EV can charge from 0-80% in 1 hour using a DC fast charger. The ZS EV is priced between Rs. 22 lakh and Rs. 25.88 lakh.

The Hyundai Kona was the first mass-market EV to be sold in India. Powered by a 39.2kWh battery, the Kona can deliver a claimed range of 452km. The Kona EV’s electric motor produces 136PS of power and 395Nm of torque. It can charge from 0-80% in about 6 hours using a 15A home charger. The Kona EV is priced between Rs. 23.84 lakh and Rs. 24 lakh. Do note that Hyundai are likely to launch the Kona EV facelift in India this year.
BYD made their debut in India with the E6 and it is currently the only product the company offers. The E6 is a 5-seater MPV available only for commercial buyers. The E6 uses a 71.1kWh battery. It produces 95PS of power and 180Nm of torque. BYD claim a city range of 520km with the E6. A DC fast charge can juice it from 30-80% in 35 minutes. The E6 is priced at Rs. 29.15 lakh.

Launched in 2020, the Mercedes-Benz EQC uses an 80kWh battery and has a claimed range of 455km. Its dual-motor setup produces 405PS of power and 760Nm of torque. The EQC can charge from 10-100% in under 8 hours using an 11kW charge. The prices for the EQC start from Rs. 99.50 lakh.
The Jaguar I-Pace is the first EV from the British carmaker. It uses a 90kWh battery and has a claimed range of 470km. Its dual-motor setup produces 400PS of power and 696Nm of torque. The I-Pace takes about 13 hours to charge completely using a home charger. The prices of I-Pace start from Rs. 1.08 crore.
BMW launched their first EV in India, the iX, last year. This electric SUV uses a 71kWh battery and has a claimed range of 425km. Its dual-motor setup produces 323PS of power and 630Nm of torque. The iX takes about 7 hours to charge completely using a home charger. The prices of iX start from Rs. 1.15 crore.
The Audi e-tron GT is a 4-door grand tourer that uses an 83.7kWh battery and has a maximum claimed range of 480km. Its dual-motor setup produces 530PS of power and 630Nm of torque. The prices of E-Tron GT start from Rs. 1.66 crore.
The more powerful RS e-tron GT uses a 93.4kWh battery and has a maximum claimed range of close to 500km, but only if you can drive it sedately. Its dual-motor setup produces 646PS of power and 830Nm of torque. The RS E-Tron GT costs Rs. 1.89 crore, which is Rs. 23 lakh more than the standard e-tron GT.
Porsche launched their Taycan series in India last year. It is available in 2 body styles – coupe (standard Taycan) and wagon (Taycan Cross Turismo). The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S come with a 93.4kWh battery. Their dual-motor setup produces 410PS of power and has a claimed range of 484km if you are easy on the accelerator pedal. The prices for the Taycan start from Rs. 1.50 crore.
BMW will launch their second EV, the i4 sedan, in India on May 26. It will offer a maximum claimed range of 590km.

Volvo will launch their first EV, the XC40 Recharge, in India soon. It will likely offer a range of more than 400km. It could be priced around Rs. 75 lakh.
Kia will launch their EV6 in India in limited numbers soon. It will offer a claimed range of 521km and cost around Rs. 50 lakh.
Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 in India in limited numbers by the end of this year. It will offer a claimed range of 481km and cost around 50 lakh.
