As per the new RTO regulations around vehicle registration plates, all vehicle owners must ensure that their vehicle has a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP). This rule applies to owners of new and old vehicles.
The thought behind this new policy is to ensure that all vehicles have the same type of registration plates. The HSRP license plates are made of aluminium and get a disposable lock that secures it to the vehicle.
The following is the online application process for an HSRP:
Step 1: Visit the official registration portal bookmyhsrp.com
Step 2: Submit all the mandatory information like chassis number, engine number, vehicle number, etc.
Step 3: Since the vehicle will be for personal use, select 'Non-Transport' under the Vehicle Category option
Step 4: Once you submit the form, your registered mobile number will receive a username and password.
Step 5: You must log in with the shared credentials and make the payment, after which you will receive a payment receipt.
Step 6: Once the HSRP is generated for your vehicle, you will receive a notification on your registered mobile number.
Currently, HSRP online applications can be made across several states of India including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Daman & Diu. Residents of other states must visit the nearest RTO to submit an HSRP application.

The High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) gets a unique 10-digit Permanent Identification Number (PIN) laser-marked in the lower left corner. There's a blue chrome-based hologram of the Ashoka Chakra, measuring 20 mm x 20 mm, appears in the top left corner of the HSRP. It is an aluminium number plate with at least two non-resettable snap locks that secure it to the vehicle.
The letters and numbers are imprinted on the top of the hot-stamped foil, preceded by "IND" in blue. The HSRP is provided only after the vehicle is digitally registered and linked to it. So, High Security Registration Plates cannot be utilized on other vehicles. Their installation should help deter theft and any form of misuse.

c.) Reducing Corruption: The HSRPs reduce corruption in the vehicle registration process by eliminating the possibility to obtain fake registration plates.
d.) Environmentally Friendly: The materials used in HSRPs are durable and eco-friendly, and don't corrode easily. This reduces the need for replacement and saves resources.
e.) Easy Vehicle Tracking: HSRPs make it easier to track and monitor vehicles and is helpful in traffic management, toll collection and other administrative purposes.
f.) Promoting Standardisation: HSRP Introduction promotes vehicle registration process standardisation, making it easier for authorities to manage and regulate vehicle-related activities.
