What Are The Pros And Cons Of MG Comet EV?
The pros or advantages of MG Comet EV are:
- Tiny dimensions and a tight turning radius of just 4.2 metres make it very easy to drive in city traffic
- Surprisingly spacious even for 4 adults despite its deceivingly small dimensions
- Compact and quirky styling will stand out on the road and attract attention like few other cars do
- EV-specific platform unlike other EVs, which use a modified petrol car platform
- Feature additions like power-folding mirrors, crawl function, faster AC charging capability, e-parking brake with auto hold and a storage space between front seats make it easier to live with
- High seating position drastically improves all-around visibility and makes it easy to drive
- Short wheelbase even makes even 165mm ground clearance very usable over poor roads and tall speed breakers
- Despite a low power figure, the city drivability of the Comet is, in fact, far superior to the non-turbo petrol engines of up to 1.2L displacement
- The tall-boy design with XL size doors makes the front seat ingress-egress as easy as walking in or out
The MG Comet EV has the following shortcomings or problems:
- 12-inch wheels on a fairly tall body look tiny; the wheel covers also look nice but don’t have enough space to easily access the valve for pressure checks and air fills
- No usable boot space with upright rear seat backs
- Quirky styling is not for every one and the more conventional Tiago EV only costs a little more
- Poor ergonomics like steering position, garden-chair seats and limited seat contouring make it a terrible option for covering long distances
- Comet’s indirect TPMS has no pressure sensors in the tyres, which could very well lead to a flat without any warning on the screen
- The motor and some wiring underneath is exposed to the elements of nature while the rear differential is the lowest part of the car; it is a concern to watch out for when traversing over bad roads
- If you intend to frequently use the rear seats, then note that the access to the rear seats is a quite cumbersome
- 7.4kW AC fast charging capability only; you only get a 3.3kW AC charger even with the 7.4kW variants
- No DC fast charging option further limits its highway practicality even for occasional usage - Mostly addressed with 2024 model update (7.4kW AC fast charging capability)
What Is The Price Of MG Comet EV Variants?
The MG Comet EV is available in 3 main variants — Executive, Excite and Exclusive. The Excite and Exclusive variants come with 2 charging speed options:
- 3.3kW AC: The Comet EV variants with the regular charging speed option costs Rs. 6.99 lakh, Rs. 7.88 lakh and Rs. 8.58 lakh.
- 7.4kW AC: This faster charging option is available with the higher 2 trims for an additional Rs. 35,800 over the 3.3kW variants. The ex-showroom prices of the Excite FC and Exclusive FC variants are Rs. 8.24 lakh and Rs. 9.13 lakh, respectively.
Please note that even with the fast-charging variants, you only get the fast-charging capability. So, you will benefit from the high-power public AC charger but if you wish to quickly charge the car at home, then you’ll either have to separately buy a 7.4kW AC fast charger.

In this variant, you may miss features like:
- Touchscreen
- Rear camera
- LED or projector headlamps
- Tilt steering
- Height-adjustable driver seat
- Auto AC
While the base variant of the Comet EV doesn’t get some features, it covers the basics quite well and offers almost all must-have features we expect from a city-spec micro car. For those interested in buying the Comet as a secondary car, this variant will work just fine. If you intend to use it as a primary car, then consider upgrading to the mid variant.
Comet EV Executive vs Excite Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
Besides the 3.3kW charging option, the mid-spec Excite variant of the Comet also comes with a faster 7.4kW AC fast charging option. The Excite variant with 3.3kW AC charging costs Rs. 7.88 lakh, which is Rs. 89,200 more than the base trim. If you want to buy the 7.4kW AC fast charging variant, then you’ll have to pay another Rs. 35,800.

The Excite variant of the Comet EV gets the following additional notable features over the base Executive variant:

In the mid variant, you may miss feature like:
- Auto AC
- Height-adjustable driver seat
- Tilt steering
- Smart keyless entry
- Rear parking camera
The mid-spec Excite variant earns our top recommendation for all Comet EV buyers. Although the mid variant of the Comet doesn’t fully justify the incremental cost over the base model, it’s not too expensive either. Moreover, it adds enough must-have features to warrant an upgrade.
Between the 3.3kW and 7.4kW options, we’ll suggest you stick with the 3.3kW variant. You should upgrade to the 7.4kW variant only if you intend to use the car a lot and you absolutely need the fast charging capability. Do note, that it is a poor choice considering the value-for-money angle.
MG Comet EV Excite vs Exclusive Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The Exclusive top model of the MG Comet EV is also available with both the charging options and costs Rs. 90,000 more than the Excite variant. The top Exclusive 3.3kW charging variant costs Rs. 8.78 lakh while the 7.4kW charging variant costs Rs. 9.14 lakh. Here too, the faster charging option costs Rs. 35,800 more than the slow charging option.

The Comet EV’s Exclusive variant gets the following notable additional features over the Excite trim:
- Keyless entry
- Tilt steering
- Bluetooth key with sharing function
- Approach and walk-away lock/unlock feature
Even in the top model of the Comet EV, you may miss features like an auto AC and a height-adjustable driver seat.

Top-spec Exclusive variant adds a few more desirable features but it only has about . While adding only about Rs. 30,000 worth of features, it doesn’t even come close to justifying the incremental cost. Therefore, the Comet’s top model is not recommended for offering a poor value for money.
Which Variant Of The MG Comet EV Should You Buy?
Among the main 3 variants of the Comet EV, only the mid variant earns our top recommendation. If you intend to use it as a primary car then you should skip the base model and go for the mid Excite variant. The mid trim gets most of the must-have and good-to-have features and you don’t have to compromise much on value either. The jump to the top model is expensive as it neither offers enough compelling features nor a good value for money.
Budget-conscious buyers or those who are buying the Comet as a second car can go with the base model as well. It gets most of the must-have features and offers good value for money.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The MG Comet EV?
In terms of the specifications, the Comet offers a smaller battery than the Tiago EV but its official claimed range of 230km is only 20km less than that of the Tiago EV. Its power and torque output are also lower than that of the Tiago EV. But, its torque-to-weight ratio is better and the power-to-weight ratio is comparable with that of the Tiago EV. Lovely article. Was confused as to which variant of the Comet to buy. Had zero-ed in on the Pace variant because I thought had the best Value for Money offering. This article justifies it. Also the comparison with Tiago EV was so very helpful. Thanks!
