Mahindra XUV 3XO

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol?

The pros or advantages of 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO petrol are:

  • Option of 2 turbo petrol engines, each with a manual and automatic transmission option
  • Best in class power and torque figures from the DI turbo petrol engine without compromising on mileage figure (20.01kmpl with manual transmission)
  • Segment-benchmark in terms of features (full ADAS suite, panoramic sunroof, steering modes, 17-inch alloys)
  • Considering the asking price, there are notable missing features in AX5 (Huh! I don’t remember saying that about a mid-spec variant of any car from any segment ever!)
  • Fantastic value for money starting price for the base model; not just that, the base variant also has a usable feature distribution for a car costing Rs. 7.49 lakh (ex-sh)
  • Value-for-money higher variants (you can blindly buy AX5 or any of the higher variants without compromising on feature distribution or value)
  • Option of buying a loaded variant without the ADAS tech
  • Since the DI and the MPFI turbo petrol engine have been around for a good while, we expect the issues to be ironed out by now; so you should expect decent reliability as well

The 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:

  • Considering the asking price, there are notable missing features in AX5 (Huh! I don’t remember saying that about a mid-spec variant of any car from any segment ever!)
  • The automatic transmission carries a premium of Rs. 1.50 lakh, which is higher than the typical asking price for an upmarket automatic transmission (TC, CVT, DCT); in the AX5 L and AX7 L automatic variants, the gap is somewhat justified as they also get adaptive cruise control
  • The mid-spec variants (MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro) offer poor value for money and poor feature distribution, hence they are not worth considering
  • The styling of the car may divide opinions
  • Adaptive cruise control is not available with manual transmission
  • Lowest ground clearance and smallest boot space in segment — A con for the XUV300 but now almost entirely addressed with its replacement — 2024 XUV 3XO

The more affordable turbo petrol engine with the 6-speed manual transmission is available in the lower 5 variants (except MX2). In the base model of the XUV 3XO, you may miss the following features:

  • Touchscreen or music system
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Height-adjustable driver seat
  • Wheel covers
  • Remote central locking
  • TPMS

The base variant doesn’t get a few features we expect from a modern car at this price point. But, most of them are easy to install from either the aftermarket or from the dealer at the time of purchase. Keeping the attractive asking price in the picture, it’s difficult to ignore the value proposition the base model of the XUV3XO offers. Moreover, the higher variants don’t quite offer a decent value while also missing on multiple features for their respective price points.

Therefore, the base variant of the 3XO comes across as a good option for most budget-conscious buyers who are okay with installing a few aftermarket accessories.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol MX1 vs MX2 Pro Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The next variant of the XUV3XO is MX2 but it’s not available with a petrol engine. So, the next option for buyers is the MX2 Pro, which is available with manual as well as automatic transmission options. The XUV3XO MX2 Pro manual costs Rs. 8.99 lakh, which is Rs. 1.50 lakh more than the MX1. For the automatic transmission, you’ll have to pay another Rs. 1.0 lakh.

  • Height-adjustable driver seat
  • Android Auto, Apple Carplay
  • TPMS

The MX2 Pro variant costs a fair bit more but doesn’t offer enough features to even come close to justifying the Rs. 1.50 lakh price gap from the base variant. For the XUV3XO automatic buyers, though, this is a good option as it carries the smallest premium for the automatic transmission. If you’re interested in petrol-manual powertrain, then you should either stick with the base model or stretch your budget for a higher, feature-rich variant with a better value for money.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol MX2 Pro vs MX3 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The next variant of the XUV3XO petrol is the MX3, which costs Rs. 9.49 lakh with the manual and Rs. 10.99 lakh with the automatic. The MX3 manual is only Rs. 50,000 pricier than the MX2 Pro but the MX3 automatic is Rs. 1.0 lakh more expensive. XUV3XO MX3 variant onwards, all petrol-automatic variants carry a premium of Rs. 1.50 lakh over the manual transmission.

  • Height-adjustable driver seat

The MX3 variant repeats the same thing and offers barely enough features to only somewhat offset the price gap over the lower variant. And that’s the story for the manual transmission. Automatic buyers don’t have that luxury. So, instead of compromising on value, we strongly suggest you consider stretching your budget and buying a higher variant.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol MX3 vs MX3 Pro Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The new Mahindra XUV3XO MX3 Pro variant only adds Rs. 50,000 to the asking price but its list of additional features is also small. The XUV3XO MX3 Pro petrol-manual costs Rs. 9.99 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Finally, we’re at the last variant of the XUV 3XO that we are not recommending for the same reasons mentioned in the lower 2 variants: the price gap over the base model doesn’t even come close to justifying the upgrade cost. Just spend a little more and buy the AX5.

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol MX3 Pro vs AX5 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

We don’t see any notable features, which you may miss in the AX5 variant considering the asking price of this variant.

Now, this is a nice option. For about Rs. 11.0 - 12.0 lakh, the AX5 offers features that you should expect from a top variant of a car in this price range. We almost never come across a variant of any car where we don’t mention the features that you may miss. Considering the price of this variant, the body style, segment, performance, features and value, the AX5 is an easy recommendation for most XUV3XO buyers.

New Mahindra XUV 3XO 2024 Petrol AX5 vs AX5 L Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The AX5 L variant onwards you only get the more powerful turbo petrol engine with direct injection. It costs Rs. 11.99 lakh with the manual and Rs. 13.49 lakh with the automatic.

The AX5 L variant of the XUV3XO is surprisingly well loaded and the most affordable car in India with the full suite of ADAS features. While it’s not the top model of the XUV3XO, it still has enough features to not just challenge, but beat the top variants of many of its rivals.

The AX5 L’s unique set of features further improve the XUV3XO’s value quotient. This variant is also worth buying if you deem these additional features important.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol AX5 vs AX7 Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The AX7 variant of the XUV3XO doesn’t get ADAS features. So, we find it appropriate to compare it with the AX5. Compared to this variant, the AX7 costs Rs. 1.80 lakh more. The XUV3XO AX7 petrol-manual carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 12.49 lakh while the automatic costs Rs. 13.99 lakh.

The AX7 variant doesn’t get the ADAS features of the AX5 L but adds luxurious features to beat the competition. Its 17-inch alloy wheels are the largest in segment. A panoramic sunroof is also only available in the Mahindra XUV3XO and no other B2-segment SUV.

For those who want high end features but don’t want the ADAS tech, the AX7 is a perfect match. It completely justifies the price gap over the base variant of the 3XO and is worth buying for the luxurious features like a panoramic sunroof.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol AX7 vs AX7 L Variant — Price, Feature Comparison

The AX7 top model of the Mahindra XUV3XO costs Rs. 13.99 lakh with the petrol-manual and Rs. 15.49 lakh with the petrol-automatic powertrain. These prices are Rs. 1.50 lakh more than those of the lower AX7 variant.

The AX7 L’s additional features over the AX7 are fewer than those of the AX5 L over the AX5. Yet, the price gap is higher here. Mahindra are clearly charging the buyer for the luxury of having upmarket features (pano sunroof, soft-touch dashboard, large alloy wheels, leather upholstery) and ADAS features in a single package.

Thankfully, they are also offering the buyers the option to choose either the luxurious features or the ADAS features in the form of AX7 and AX5L variants for a much lower price. Regardless of the slight dip in value proposition, the AX7L remains a strong value offering in the segment with some of its exclusive features.

Which Variant Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol Should You Buy?

The XUV3XO’s buying recommendation is fairly straightforward. If you’re on a tight budget, then the base variant is a solid choice. Just add a few accessories and you're good to go. It has a good feature balance and you will certainly appreciate that during the ownership.

From there, the variant that’s easy to recommend is the AX5. It offers a fantastic balance of features and value, which, if compared to other cars in the price range, will win handily. From there, you can take your pick in the top 3 variants based on your feature preferences. They’re all good, VFM options.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO Petrol?

Among the B2-segment SUVs, the XUV3XO’s performance figures demolish the competition with best-in-class torque figures. Even without the direct injection tech, the XUV3XO’s base turbo petrol engine has the best torque output. But if you’re considering the top engine of the XUV3XO, it just shines with phenomenal power and torque figures.

Surprisingly, even with such performance figures, the XUV3XO manages to offer healthy mileage figures. The mileage of the XUV3XO isn’t just respectable, it’s outstanding considering the performance on offer. In fact, the most fuel efficient powertrain combination of the XUV3XO also happens to be their most efficient one.

What Are The Dimensions Of The Mahindra XUV 3XO?

In terms of dimensions, the XUV 3XO is the widest and it has the longest wheelbase and the largest wheel size as well. Earlier, the XUV300 was lacking in the ground clearance and boot space department. The 3XO fixes those issues and offers a respectable 295L boot space despite the addition of a subwoofer. The ground clearance of the 3XO is also now far better than before and stands at 201mm.

I am planning to confused between XUV300 W6 with sunroof AMT and W8 optional AMT. If I will go for W6 what are all the major things I will lose.

I am fan of V3 reviews and brought XUV300 w8 after researched a lot. V3 helps me on this. After one month of ownership, I can say that the entire blog and YouTube review are exactly described the pros and cons point to point. I got the car on 22 Dec 2022 with huge discount, after all it was December. But I completely believe that if models are available at showroom, you can bargain up to 1.4 lakh on the onroad price and on that front XUV300 will be the best choice on its segment.

Multiple errors in the article above. Difference between AX5 & AX7 is about 1.8L. Also, article randomly mentions HTK and HTK plus trims of sonet/seltos. Please fix, thanks!
